Review: When I'm Gone and When You're Back (Rosemary Beach #11 and #12) by Abbi Glines

When I'm Gone
Rosemary Beach #11
by Abbi Glines
April 7. 2015
Simon and Schuster

Amazon |  Barnes and Noble  |  Audible  |  Goodreads

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Abbi Glines comes the next new adult novel in the Rosemary Beach series, in which we meet Mase, a Texas heartthrob first introduced in Take a Chance who comes to Rosemary Beach to stir things up.

I had an urge to fix all her problems. Which was stupid. She was doing fine without me. But something about those big eyes…

Mase Colt-Manning has always preferred his humble life as a Texas rancher to his birthright as the son of a legendary rock star. In fact, he rarely visits his father’s rarefied world in Rosemary Beach, especially if it means bunking at his vile half-sister Nan’s house—until one visit leads to a chance encounter with a young, gorgeous house maid who awakens him with her off-key but spirited imitation of a country music star…

Reese Ellis finally has her freedom. After escaping a lifetime of abuse from her parents and classmates for an undiagnosed learning disorder, she seizes the opportunity to be a house maid to some of the richest families in Rosemary Beach. But her job is in jeopardy when she causes an accident at the home of her most important client, Nan Dillon. When a hot, half-naked stranger with a cowboy’s swagger comes to her rescue, she’s intrigued—then afraid once he shows his own interest. Reese has never met a trustworthy man in her life. Will Mase be any different?

My Thoughts:  I've thoroughly enjoyed the Rosemary Beach Series by Abbi Glines, which began with the Rush Crush, then we were wowed by Woods, turned on by Trip, and became gluttons for Grant, though Grant did have to work harder to win me over.  If you are a fan of the series, then you've met Mase, and I was really, really looking forward to getting to know more about Mase.  He just had the hot cowboy mixed with a little bit of bad boy thing going on.  He has shown himself to be fiercely protective over his sister Harlow, and is about as fond of his other sister, Nan, as the rest of the world is, which isn't much.  I loved Reese, and my heart broke for her on more than one occasion.  She is a better person that I could have ever been in some of the situations that she faced.  She and Mase really had a special connection and I loved seeing him help her to bloom into the lovely person that she really was.  Of course the story wouldn't be a story without some heartache, some misunderstandings, and some of the other hotties popping up in the picture as well, causing a little jealousy to raise it's ugly head along the way.  That said, I really did enjoy getting to see many of the characters we've all come to know and love make an appearance in this story as well.

Reese and Mase also had to deal with the distance issue, him being in Texas and her being in Rosemary Beach, which was a bit difficult to say the least.  Then there was the Nan........... and if you know who Nan is, just her name is enough said.  I enjoyed the way Abbi Glines pulled everything together for these characters by the end of the book, leaving you happy, but on the edge of your seat waiting for the next installment so you could finish Reese and Mase's story.  I purposely waited until Mase and Reese's second book came out before I read this, because I knew it would drive me crazy if I had to wait.  Contemporary romance fans and fans of the Rosemary Beach series will love reading When I'm Gone.  I know I did.

When You're Back
Rosemary Beach #12

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Abbi Glines comes the next new adult novel in her beloved Rosemary Beach series, which continues the story of Mase and Reese from When I’m Gone.

The future is bright for Reese Ellis. She has Mase Colt-Manning, the man of her dreams, and a family she didn’t know existed until her long-lost father arrived on her doorstep in Rosemary Beach. After growing up with a cruel mother and abusive stepfather, Reese is eager to get to know the caring and charming man who wants to be a part of her life. Everything is finally falling into place.

While Reese is visiting her new family in Chicago, Mase spends time with his “cousin,” Aida, who has worshipped him since childhood. Though they’re unrelated by blood, Mase and Aida have been raised to think of each other as family. But when Reese returns, she can tell something isn’t quite right with Aida, who clearly resents Reese and excels at manipulative little games. And though Mase is unsuspecting, Reese knows Aida doesn’t love him like a cousin should...

My Thoughts:  I couldn't wait to begin reading When You're Back, especially after the ending of When I'm Gone.  Reese and Mase are crazy about each other, but their relationship is still new and they both have a lot of insecurities to work around.  There were a few times in this book when I really thought Mase was going to do something to disappoint me, and while he was a bit naive about a few things and did screw up several times, making me want to slap some sense into him, for the most part he was a really stand-up guy.  Reese has a lot of self-esteem issues and is really unsure of herself, and she endured some hurt in this book that I hated having to see her go through, but she also stretched herself in ways she didn't think she was capable of as well.  Then there was Aida ...I could not stand Aida.  I hope I don't have to see Aida ever again.  Captain was also in this story and I found him to be quite intriguing.  He definitely caused things to heat up, and I can't wait to read his story.

When You're Back was a great story and I enjoyed seeing Mase and Reese get their happily ever after together.  Lord knows they had to fight their way there, and they did just that.  It was a great ending to this couple's chapter in the Rosemary Beach Saga, and Abbi Glines set things up nicely for the next book as well.

Review: Until Friday Night by Abbi Glines

Until Friday Night
(The Field Party #1)
by Abbi Glines
Publication Date:  8/25/2015
Publisher:  Simon Pulse

To everyone who knows him, West Ashby has always been that guy: the cocky, popular, way-too-handsome-for-his-own-good football god who led Lawton High to the state championships. But while West may be Big Man on Campus on the outside, on the inside he’s battling the grief that comes with watching his father slowly die of cancer.

Two years ago, Maggie Carleton’s life fell apart when her father murdered her mother. And after she told the police what happened, she stopped speaking and hasn’t spoken since. Even the move to Lawton, Alabama, couldn’t draw Maggie back out. So she stayed quiet, keeping her sorrow and her fractured heart hidden away.

As West’s pain becomes too much to handle, he knows he needs to talk to someone about his father—so in the dark shadows of a post-game party, he opens up to the one girl who he knows won’t tell anyone else.

West expected that talking about his dad would bring some relief, or at least a flood of emotions he couldn’t control. But he never expected the quiet new girl to reply, to reveal a pain even deeper than his own—or for them to form a connection so strong that he couldn’t ever let her go…

My Thoughts:  I've been a fan of Abbi Glines for sometime now and when I heard she was writing another YA book, I couldn't help but reminisce about Beau and Sawyer Vincent.  How I love those boys.  Needless to say, those memories had me chomping at the bit to read Until Friday Night.  While I didn't fall in love with Wes Ashby like I did Beau and Sawyer Vincent, I did end up liking him by the time the story was over.  Maggie is the female lead in this book.  She's been through a horrific tragedy, one that has left her damaged.  When she moves in with her Uncle and his family, she meets Wes Ashby.  Wes is also in a very bad place because of family issues, but not very many people know it.  Maggie is sweet and perceptive, and she sees behind the facade Wes is portraying to the hurting guy underneath.  She grows a lot in this book, coming out of her shell through her need to help Wes in his time of need, and then finally dealing with her own loss.  Her family was pretty dysfunctional all her life, while Wes' family was the opposite.  He experiences his loss in a different way, and Maggie plays a big role in helping him cope.

I have to say that in the beginning Wes was really a jerk and I just didn't like him much at all, especially the way he treated girls.  He did grow on me and redeemed himself before it was all said and done, however.  I liked how he stepped up to the plate and was there for Maggie towards the end of the book.  Of course you have the typical high school drama going on with boys, girls, football players, cheerleaders, and of course the Friday night field parties.  Until Friday Night is a good beginning to a series that I'm looking forward to reading more of, and seeing what Abbi Glines has in store for us next with some of the other characters.
