Slowly, numbly, she shrugged.  “I knew you were dangerous and relentless in pursuing somebody,” she whispered.  But a killer?   Her search for him had held a romantic element, and she knew it.  This guy was all edge—no romance.  “Am I in danger?”  Her voice quivered, but she had to know.
“Yes.”  He didn’t move.  Didn’t even seem to breathe.
She blinked.  Rapidly.  “From you?”
His eyes darkened.  “No.  The only thing I’m capable of breaking is your heart.”
Cold swam through her.  The arrogance.  “You think you broke my heart?”
His lip twisted.  “I know I did.”  His tone was low with what seemed like self-hatred.  Dark and raw.  “I’m sorry.”
Those words.  She’d needed those words and hadn’t realized how badly.  “Thank you,” she said, going on instinct.  “Then how am I in danger?”
“I’m in danger, and anybody close to me is free game for an enemy who will keep coming until I’m dead.  Until everything I care about, everything I dream about, is taken away and I want death.”  He looked back down at the computer, intensity pouring from him.
Whoa. Okay.  Denver didn’t have one bit of hysteria in him.  His words scared her, but curiosity still rose up.  “Who?”
“Irrelevant.  As soon as we get Talia back, you have to forget me.  Now.  Back to Richie.”
She could live forever, and she’d never forget him.  Not for one second had she been able to pretend he didn’t exist.  But he was right.  They had to find Talia, but he still needed to explain more.  She had a right to know everything.  “I have files on everything.”  She threw her pack at Denver, and he easily caught it before it smashed him in the face.
He didn’t so much as frown.  “Thank you.”
She swallowed.  They were in the same room.  After a year of hurting for him, he was right there in solid form.  More than solid.  She hadn’t imagined his hard body or intense charisma.  He owned every room he walked into with no effort.  She’d never met anybody like him, and here he was.  Her body tingled, her heart ached, and her mind spun.  Yeah.  Denver was definitely there.  “What now?” she asked, her eyes gritty and her throat scratchy.
“I’ll do some research.”  Slowly, numbly, she shrugged.  “I knew you were dangerous and relentless in pursuing somebody,” she whispered.  But a killer?   Her search for him had held a romantic element, and she knew it.  This guy was all edge—no romance.  “Am I in danger?”  Her voice quivered, but she had to know.

A SEAL’S STRENGTH by JM Stewart
Blog Blitz Excerpt
Maybe he was right. Maybe it was time she was honest with him.

Careful to keep her voice low, she turned her head and looked off down the street. Honesty might be the best policy, but she couldn’t force herself to look into that disarming hazel gaze while she said the words.

“I wasn’t prepared for this. I was prepared for a weekend. A little fun with someone I trusted once. That’s different, you know, than a hookup in a bar. But you’re…you. It’s childish, really, to still feel that way. To be jealous of a dead woman.” She heaved a sigh and finally forced herself to look at him. “But I am.”

Her insides shook as she waited. That was the most she’d ever told him. She didn’t know if she actually wanted his response and yet part of her craved it. A holdover from all those years ago. Back in college, she’d wanted him to know she’d fallen in love with him, because she’d held out this hope he’d tell her he loved her back. Pathetic that the need still hovered beneath the surface.

Those keen eyes worked her face. Then, finally, he smiled, warm and alluring. “So, dinner? Next Friday?”

There was that sexy smile she’d known would make an appearance, and she was caving, exactly the way she’d known she would.

She heaved a sigh and nodded. “Fine. You win. I’ll have dinner with you next Friday. But since I owe you for the car and clearly you’re not taking my money…”

“Nope.” He winked, eyes gleaming with playful impishness and a touch of smug self-satisfaction.

Giddy, happy little butterflies took flight in her stomach. “Then I’m cooking.”

One dark brow arched and the corners of his mouth twitched. “Can you do that?”

This time, her facade cracked. She punched him in the shoulder. “Yes, thank you very much. Contrary to popular belief, I have actually grown up.”

Those gorgeous eyes glinted at her. “So you have.”

“Friday. Six o’clock. Don’t be late.” She pivoted and marched toward her car, determined to get away from him before she embarrassed herself. As she reached into her purse, however, it hit her. Gabe had her keys. She halted, sighed, and, face hot as Hades itself, turned back.

Gabe stood grinning at her, his right arm extended. He jangled her keys, dangling from his thumb and forefinger. “Missing something?”

She rolled her eyes and strode back to him, but when she reached for the keys, he held tight to them.

“I look forward to seeing you, you know. I’ll say it again, in case you missed my point last time. Were you anybody else, that first date wouldn’t have gone this far.” He finally released her keys and winked at her. “And I won’t be late. I’m never late.”

Review: Hard Justice by April Hunt

Hard Justice

A DATE WITH DANGER

As the first female operative at Alpha Security, Charlotte "Charlie" Sparks has her work cut out for her. Sure, she can wrestle a man to the ground and hit a target at 200 yards with the best of them. But sometimes, being surrounded by all that testosterone can drive a woman to distraction-especially when that distraction is six-and-a-half feet of cocky, confident, Alpha-trained muscle.

Ex-SEAL commander Vince Franklin has been on some of the most dangerous missions in the world. But pretending to be Charlie's fiancé on their latest assignment in Miami is his toughest challenge yet. Vince and Charlie are like oil and water; they just don't mix. And when their fake romance generates some all-too-real heat, Vince learns that Charlie is more than just arm candy. She's the real deal-and she's ready for some serious action.

My Thoughts:  After reading the first few books in the series, I was looking forward to starting Hard Justice.  We've met both Charlie and Vince in the previous novels and I was excited to see them get their own story.  Charlie is as badass as a girl can be, and her secretive past has played a big part in her achievement of this status.   A mission arises that Alpha Security needs her on, but it also requires her to come face-to-face with the people in her past that she worked so hard to be free of, some of which the members of the team are aware of, and some of which they aren't.

Vince is an ex-SEAL commander and hotter than hot.  He and Charlie have tried to act like they can't stand each other, despite the sexual tension that everyone who knows them can both sense and see.  When Vince is ordered to accompany Charlie on this mission, the heat gets really turned up, both with their banter and physically, which of course was inevitable.

As they embark upon their mission, the things they run into and get involved are most definitely entertaining.  Hard Justice is filled with suspense, danger, action, humor, and hot romance.  Fans of the series, fans of April Hunt, and fans of romantic suspense, will most definitely want to grab a copy of this one.

Blog Tour: Disorderly Conduct by Tessa Bailey

You don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone…
Police academy cadet Charlie Burns can’t believe his luck when the gorgeous blonde he meets in a bar murmurs those magic words: “Nothing serious, ’kay?” Mind-blowing, no-strings sex with Ever Carmichael—it’s the holy grail of hookups for a guy who’s too busy following in his law enforcement family’s footsteps to think about getting serious. Charlie’s all about casual…that is, until Ever calls it quits and his world tilts on its axis.
Ever knows that when you control the relationship game, you can’t get played. But for the first time, she wants more than short-term satisfaction. Step one: end her fling with commitment-phobic Charlie. Step two: sacrifice herself to the ruthless NYC dating scene. Yet everywhere she turns, there’s Charlie, being his ridiculously charming self. No online match or blind date compares to the criminally hot cop-in-training, but they’re over. Aren’t they?
If love is a four-letter-word, why does the idea of Ever seeing someone else tie Charlie up in knots?  Now he’s desperate to win her back…and a little date sabotage never hurt anyone, right?

EXCERPT

 “NYPD. Open up...”
Ever opens the door, but I can only see a sliver of her goddess figure because the chain is still on.

“Oh. Is something wrong, Officer?”

“As a matter of fact, there is.” I tug my ever-present notebook and pen out of my back pocket, pretending to consult the first page, which sucks,
since it means taking my eyes off her for a second. “We’ve gotten several complaints about the smell of chocolate coming from this apartment. You
know anything about that?”

Ever bites her lip and throws a guilty glance over her shoulder. “Maybe. What’s it going to take to make this go away?”

I lean forward, close enough to hear her breath go shallow through the crack. “What’s it going to take?” I drop my eyes to her exposed stomach
where a rhinestone sparkles from its place of honor in her belly button. “We can start with a thorough inspection of the premises.”

About Tessa Bailey

Tessa Bailey is originally from Carlsbad, California. The day after high school graduation, she packed her yearbook, ripped jeans, and laptop, and drove cross-country to New York City in under four days. Her most valuable life experiences were learned thereafter while waitressing at K-Dees, a Manhattan pub owned by her uncle. Inside those four walls, she met her husband, best friend, and discovered the magic of classic rock, managing to put herself through Kingsborough Community College and the English program at Pace University at the same time. Several stunted attempts to enter the work force as a journalist followed, but romance writing continued to demand her attention. She now lives in Long Island, New York with her husband and daughter. Although she is severely sleep-deprived, she is incredibly happy to be living her dream of writing about people falling in love.

Review: Worth the Wait by Lori Foster

Worth the Wait
by Lori Foster
  • Publisher: HQN Books (July 25, 2017)

Goodreads  |  Amazon  |  Barnes an Noble

Ready or not…love will find a way

Single dad Hogan Guthrie is getting his life back on track, and working as the "barbecue master" at a local diner is just a temporary detour. He and restaurant owner Violet Shaw constantly butt heads…until one night they end up mingling other parts instead. Hogan thought he had the recipe for happiness all figured out. But loyal, carefree Violet is daring him to trust his impulses…and see just how sweet small-town living—and loving—can be.

Nathan Hawley traded his SWAT team credentials for a sheriff's badge, but a gorgeous new neighbor is shaking up his orderly life. Nathan has a hunch there's more to Brooklin Sweet than meets the eye—but given her caution about getting involved, he has his work cut out for him. Still, there's something about the elusive beauty Nathan can't walk away from—and helping her come to terms with her past might pave the way to the future they both secretly long for.

My Thoughts:  Worth the Wait is my favorite book thus far in this series.  I loved getting to know both Hogan and Violet better, as well as seeing characters from the first book, Don't Tempt Me, in which we originally met both Violet and Hogan.  Hogan has been through the ringer and has since developed quite the reputation for himself, and Violet is a force to be reckoned with.  Fate kind of throws them together and lets just say things get hot and not just on the barbeque grill.   I also really loved Hogan's son teenage son Colt, who plays a big part in the story as well.

Along side Hogan and Violet's story, we also get to experience Nathan and Brooklin's story.  Being the Sheriff, Nathan can't help but notice his hot new mysterious neighbor, and despite her reluctance, he is determined to wear her down.  His persistance pays off and Brooklin warms up to him, but her past also threatens not only her, but her new friends.  This adds a feeling of danger and suspense to the story, which interweaves into Hogan and Violet's story as well.

Lori Foster does an excellent job telling the stories and knitting them together beautifully.  I loved the romance and close friendship all the characters have, and the fact that they are all neighbors.  There is just the right amount of humor mixed in with the suspense and danger, and enough sizzle to serve up a delicious feast for fans of Lori Foster, and contemporary romance fans in general.  I enjoyed this book and definitely recommend it.

Review: The Marriage Pact by Michelle Richmond

The Marriage Pack
by Michelle Richmond
  • Publisher: Bantam (July 25, 2017)
  • Publication Date: July 25, 2017
  • Sold by: Random House LLC

In this relentlessly paced novel of psychological suspense, New York Times bestselling author Michelle Richmond crafts an intense and shocking tale that asks: How far would you go to protect your marriage?

Newlyweds Alice and Jake are a picture-perfect couple. Alice, once a singer in a well-known rock band, is now a successful lawyer. Jake is a partner in an up-and-coming psychology practice. Their life together holds endless possibilities. After receiving an enticing wedding gift from one of Alice's prominent clients, they decide to join an exclusive and mysterious group known only as The Pact.

The goal of The Pact seems simple: to keep marriages happy and intact. And most of its rules make sense. Always answer the phone when your spouse calls. Exchange thoughtful gifts monthly. Plan a trip together once per quarter. . . . Never mention The Pact to anyone.

Alice and Jake are initially seduced by the glamorous parties, the sense of community, their widening social circle of like-minded couples. And then one of them breaks the rules. The young lovers are about to discover that for adherents to The Pact, membership, like marriage, is for life. And The Pact will go to any lengths to enforce that rule. For Jake and Alice, the marriage of their dreams is about to become their worst nightmare.

My Thoughts:  I was very curious after reading the synopsis of The Marriage Pact and couldn't resist checking it out for myself.  When I first started reading it, I kind of had a difficult time getting into the story.  However, the more I read, the more curious I became.  What started out being a kind of mundane story about life, marriage, and the struggles the characters face as they are both confronted with their past, present, and potential future, turns into a psychological thriller that is both bizarre and suspensful, and really makes you think.

Alice and Jake get invited to be part of the Pact, which on the surface sounds wonderful, almost too good to be true.  However, once you enter, you may never get out.  Almost cultic in its practices, some of which are almost beyond belief, you can't help but follow the story to see just what happens to these two characters.  Even the ending, though satisfying, is also mysterious and thought provoking.  While not something I normally read, I can say that The Marriage Pact is definitely a story that I won't forget.

Review: Accidental Sire by Molly Harper

Accidental Sire
Half-Moon Hollow #6
by Molly Harper
  • Publication Date: July 24, 2017
  • Publisher:  Pocket Star
  • Sold by: Simon and Schuster Digital Sales Inc

Goodreads  |  Amazon  |  Barnes an Noble

In Molly Harper's newest paranormal romantic comedy, Ben, Gigi's old boyfriend, must find a way to save his new love after a freak Ultimate Frisbee accident. But will she want to live after she finds out how Ben had to save her?

In this exciting addition to Molly Harper’s beloved Half-Moon Hollow series, the focus is on Gigi’s ex-boyfriend Ben. When his new girlfriend is killed in a freak Ultimate Frisbee accident, he’s determined to save her, no matter the cost, even if it means bringing her into the darkness of vampire life!

My Thoughts:  This is actually the first Molly Harper book I've read, and I did enjoy it, though I am sure I would have enjoyed it much more if I had read the other books in the series previously, just so I would be familiar with some of the other characters in the book.  Nonetheless, I did find the story humorous and enjoyed getting to know Ben and Megan.  They are both recently turned vampires, and they are a different type of vampire, which makes it even more necessary that they be under close observation.  The first part of the book more or less deals with the their transition, while as the story progresses, a little more mystery is involved.

Accidental Sire is a fun book, but again, I would recommend reading the prior books in the series as I really felt like I was missing out by not being familiar with some of the characters that were obviously very important players in the previous novels.  Fans of he series will no doubt enjoy this well written addition to the Half-Moon Hollow series by Molly Harper.

Review: Wicked Kiss (Realm Enforcers #4) by Rebecca Zanetti

Wicked Kiss
(Realm Enforcers #4)
by Rebecca Zanetti
Published:  July 4, 2017
Publisher:  Kensington

Goodreads  |  Amazon

Working as an informant for the DEA, Victoria Monzelle is used to living on the edge. But she’s not a big fan of getting kidnapped. And definitely not by a bunch of bad boy witches with fancy-colored fire to shoot at people. So when Adam Dunne shows up and claims to be a witch enforcer, she’s not going to put her life in his hands based on his word, no matter how smooth and smart and beautifully Irish his words sound. But on the run from a tribunal of witches, she isn’t going to make it far . . .

Before she knows it, Adam’s word is all that stands between her and execution. Sophisticated, just-gotta-ruffle-him Adam has vowed to make her his one eternal mate, wild and unpredictable as she is—to save her from a sentence of certain death. But Tori isn’t interested in being anyone’s pity date. And if they think she’s unpredictable now, they should see what’s coming next.

My Thoughts:  Being a huge Rebecca Zanetti fan I couldn't wait to read the latest installment in her Realm Enforcers series, Wicked Kiss.  Adam Dunne is a an witch and is also an enforcer for the Coven 9.  Adam has been undercover as part of a motorcycle club, in an effort to find the source of a new drug which can kill humans and is detrimental to witches.   Victoria Monzelle is outspoken and a little on the wild side, with her purple streaked hair and fearless attitude.  She and the Irish witch couldn't be more different and let's just say they prove the theory that opposites attract and then some.

Victoria has unfortunately found herself on the radar of the police - the human ones.  When circumstances surrounding the investigation force these two together, things get really heated both emotionally and physically, resulting in the Coven ordering Tori's demise and Adam vowing to make her his mate in order to safe her life.  The hot witch is a force to be reckoned with, and this little human woman tests everthing within him, giving him a run for his money.

In true Rebecca Zanetti style, Wicked Kiss is filled with suspense, action, danger, romance and all the hot supernatural beings that fans of this and her Dark Protectors series have come to know and love.  Wicked Kiss is a wonderful addition to the Realm Enforcers series and I thoroughly enjoyed it, and can't wait to delve into the next book.  Definitely check this one out.

Review: Wired by Julie Garwood from Berkley

Wired
by Julie Garwood
  • Publisher: Berkley
  • Publication Date: July 4, 2017
  • Sold by: Penguin Group (USA) LLC

Goodreads  |  Amazon

A beautiful computer hacker and a bad-boy FBI agent must collaborate—in more ways than one—in the sizzling new novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Julie Garwood.

Allison Trent doesn’t look like a hacker. In fact, when she’s not in college working on her degree, she models on the side. But behind her gorgeous face is a brilliant mind for computers and her real love is writing—and hacking—code. Her dream is to write a new security program that could revolutionize the tech industry.

Hotshot FBI agent Liam Scott has a problem: a leak deep within his own department. He needs the skills of a top-notch hacker to work on a highly sensitive project: to secretly break into the FBI servers and find out who the traitor is. But he can’t use one of his own. He finds the perfect candidate in Allison. Only, there’s one problem—she wants nothing to do with his job and turns him down flat.

What Liam doesn’t know is that Allison is hiding secrets that she doesn’t want the FBI to uncover. But Liam will do nearly anything to persuade her to join his team, even break a few rules if that’s what it takes. A temptation that could put his job—and both of their futures—on the line…
and longing for more.

My Thoughts:  Wired is the first book I've read by Julie Garwood and I found it to be quite enjoyable.  Allison Trent is a beautiful woman whose life has been anything but easy growing up.  She is also a world-class computer hacker who is attending college and models on the side to pay the bills, a job she could easily make a career of if she so desired.  Liam Scott is a somewhat mysterious FBI agent who travels all over solving cases.  When his most recent case requires the skills of a far above average hacker, he finds and tries to recruit Allison, only she doesn't want the job...at all.   Allison has secrets that could get her in a lot of trouble, although the things she's done were never for her own benefit.  When the lines become blurred between work and something much more intimate, thing get even more interesting.

Wired has suspense, danger, and romance all encompassed in a great story, and is something that fans of contemporary romance and romantic suspense should certaily consider checking out.
