"Voice"
by Nyrae Dawn
I’ve had people ask me a few times what made me tell Sebastian’s story from the boy’s POV. What made me decide against making it alternating or to write a female main character? I love this question because people seem extremely happy with my choice and wanting to read MORE male POV. That seriously makes me smiley. I’ve always loved books written from the boy’s POV and I haven’t always had it easy since I write a lot of it.
That’s not the point of this post though. I want to talk about voice and characters. The truth is, and I know this probably sounds funny since Sebastian came from inside my head (don’t tell him), but I told it from his point of view because he demanded it. It was always his story. I actually thought about writing it from a girl’s POV in the beginning… writing a girl who played match-maker, but then this guy… Sebastian pushed his way though.

He wouldn’t stop talking and the second the tiny, little seed of his character sprouted in my head, there was no turning back. It was his story. Always was, I just didn’t always know it.

His voice was always been crystal clear to me. He leapt from my imagination and to the paper very quickly. If you’ve read the book, you know how he is, and once he started, he wouldn’t stop.
I loved every minute of it.

I gave him complete control and didn’t try to reel him in (as if I could). This is who he is and I wanted to be real with that. I hoped people could love him the way I did—the way I do.

I’m not going to say it was always easy. At times I second-guessed him. I thought about revising (he gave me crap for that one), but it just didn’t feel right. In the end, I let him be himself and I’m so glad I did because the story feels real to me.
I’m honored that I got to be the one to tell his story. I’m honored that readers like him.
About the Author:  I am totally and completely passionate about books. I live and breathe books, both writing and reading. I love the escapism they provide. I love making new book friends, both in real life and characters in a story. There's nothing like it.

I'm a huge YA fan, especially contemporary. Total romantic at heart and proud! I also like paranormal and Dystopian. Boy POV is one of my favorites.

I've been writing for as long as I can remember. Though I write mostly YA, I do write some adult as well. It's fun to change it up from time to time.

I'm happily married and have two pretty awesome kids.

Meet Sebastian
Courtesy of watching his mom’s relationships, Sebastian Hawkins knows what girls need to do to get a guy. He has what he considers a PHD in hooking up. When he needs extra cash for a car, Sebastian starts up an online venture as The Hook-up Doctor, to anonymously help girls land the guy of their dreams. Of course, his services don’t offer a happily-ever-after guarantee. He’s seen firsthand getting together never means staying together.

And then he falls in love…

With the last girl he would expect…

Totally not in his game plan.

Suddenly, Sebastian finds himself muddled in the game he’s always prided himself on. He can’t even pick up girls at parties anymore! Why would anyone want to be in love when it turns you into a stuttering, screwed-up, mess with really lame stalker tendencies? Stalking? Totally not his gig.

But the Hook-up Doctor won’t let himself go down easily. He’s always known how to give a girl what she wants and now it’s time to figure out what a boy wants… and he definitely plans on getting it.
Don't forget to enter the giveaway, and be sure and stop back by tomorrow for Sebastian's interview.
Thanks for Stopping by!
