Book description:
Madly is your average nearly-eighteen year old girl—for a princess, that is.

Madly James is thoroughly enjoying her internship in the small town of Slumber when the unthinkable happens—there’s a prison break in Atlas, the magically-protected home of Madly’s race. A traitor has set free eight Lore, the spirits of what humans know as fairy tales, and they are making their way to Slumber to awaken their descendants.

In order to save her home, the lives of her family, and all of humanity, Madly must learn to wield her exceptional powers and recapture the Lore before it’s too late and all is lost. But Madly’s only help are her two best friends and the Sentinel, Jackson Hamilton, that threatens both her heart and her destiny. Madlyhas loved Jackson as long as she can remember, but he is the one thing even a princess can’t have. Can she resist love to become the queen she was fated to be? Or can she find a way to have both?

This novelette introduces you to Madly and prepares you for the quest of a lifetime

My Thoughts:  In this novelette we are introduced to Madly James and the world in which she lives.  On the surface, you would think she is a typical 17-year-old, but in actuality, she is a princess.  Atlas, her home, lies deep beneath the sea.  Magic protects Atlas and the town of Slumber.  Here, she and her friends attend school and learn to interact outside Atlas with the human world.  Then something happens, something that hasn't happened in hundreds of years, a Mer is murdered, but that is only the beginning.  Someone has released the dreaded Lore, and they are holding Atlas, and Madly's family captive.  As a result of the murder, someone from Madly's past steps back into her life, Sentinel Jackson Hamilton, hotness incarnate, the object of her affection for as long as she can remember.  The problem is that she is betrothed to another who like her, is of royal blood.  He is also her best friend, Aidan.  Not only does Madly have to deal with the crisis of saving her race, but also the battle between her heart and her head, because the heart wants what the heart wants.

This is the perfect beginning to an absolutely awesome series.  I loved Madly, and Jackson, well let's just say he makes you sizzle just to think about him.  Aidan and Jersey (who is also Jackson's sister), are Madly's best friends and they have been together forever.  They were fun to get to know, especially Jersey.  The story is fast paced, entertaining, and romantic.  Trust me, these Mer folk are some you really want to get to know.  M. Leighton has done an outstanding job of laying the groundwork for a mesmerizing series.

MADLY and Wolfhardt
Madly James is thoroughly enjoying her internship in the small town of Slumber when the unthinkable happens—there’s a prison break in Atlas, the magically-protected home of Madly’s race. A traitor has set free eight Lore, the spirits of what humans know as fairy tales, and they are making their way to Slumber to awaken their descendants.

The first spirit to arrive is that of Ulrich Wolfhardt, a man that was once obsessed with wolves and a young maiden he would follow through the woods. After a bite from a wolf, Wolfhardt’s obsession with the girl became an unnatural hunger and the young maiden’s grandmother cursed him with a fate worse than death. And now he’s back…with a vengeance and a bite that can infect others as well.

Madly must learn the identity of Wolfhardt’s descendant and stop him before he kills again and spreads his curse across the earth. But the only person strong enough to help Madly is Jackson, the Sentinel who vowed to protect her and the one person capable of breaking her heart. Can Madly resist forbidden love long enough to save the world from Wolfhardt? Or will she have to sacrifice her heart and her destiny to save the ones she loves?

My Thoughts:  In this second book of the Madly series, we pick up where the first left off.  Madly and her friends are on their internship in the town of Slumber, where they learn to interact with humans.  A Mer is murdered, and there is a prison break in Madly's home, Atlas.  Eight Lore have escaped.  The Lore are the spirits that make up what we know as fairy tales.  In this book, the spirit of Ulrich Wolfhardt, attempts to come into Slumber to awaken his descendant.  We would associate him with the wolf in Little Red Riding Hood, but this wolf and this story, isn't anything like the fairly tale we all know.  Jackson and Madly, with the help of Jersey and Aidan, attempt to find out the identity of Wolfhardt's descendants so they can capture him when he comes to awaken them.  As Madly and Jackson work together, it becomes harder and harder for her to resist her true feelings for him, to resist the tie that is calling them to be mated.  Nevertheless, for Atlas they push forward to accomplish that which must be done.

In this book, we are introduced to Kellina, who they believe is a descendant of Wolfhardt.  Madly befriends her, and so do Aidan and Jersey, especially Aidan.  The love-hate relationship between Jackson and Madly continues, as they try to deny what they feel, but greater forces continue to pull them together.  The chemistry between Madly and Jackson is off the charts, until they can no longer deny what they are to one another.  There is quite a bit of heart pounding action in this book also.  Though I've never been drawn to mermaid books, I found this series to be delightful.  M. Leighton does an outstanding job of bringing together myths and legends to produce an captivating and entertaining story that leaves you wanting more.

MADLY and The Jackal
How deep does love run? Deeper than the ocean? Deeper than memory? Deeper than magic?

Following their plan to save Atlas, Madly and Jackson return the spirit of Wolfhardt to his prison beneath the sea. But even the best laid plans couldn’t account for the surprises they find. This time, Lore aren’t their only challenges.

Madly is special in ways no one could have guessed and dark forces seek to control her. They want her power, but first they must weaken her. They need her beaten. Vulnerable. Near death. And alone. But that task isn’t an easy one with Jackson at her side. The strongest of their kind, the only way to separate Jackson from Madly is to destroy his love for her, to erase it from his mind. And his heart.

Is it possible to steal Jackson’s love from Madly? Or is their love the only truly unbreakable thing?

My Thoughts:  In Madly and the Jackal, the story again picks up where the previous book left off.  Madly and Jackson have captured the spirit of Wolfhardt and as planned, embark on their quest to return him to his prison and attempt to get into Atlas.  They have finally acknowledged their tie and love for one another, no longer denying that which was destined to be between them, and now having just found one another, they risk losing it all to save Atlas and the Mer race.  Through Madly's magic and Jackson's strength and wisdom, they are able to get into the city and meet with Madly's father, making a plan to rescue her sister.  Something isn't right though.  Somehow they have been betrayed.  Something much bigger and much worse is after them, and seeks to destroy them.  Yet ironically, something that was meant to destroy them, brings them to the place that they commit to one another forever.  As they discover and deepen their love for one another, the threat continues and the unthinkable happens.  The Lore that they are seeking to capture, use their potions and magic to attempt to erase Jackson's memory of the love he has for Madly.  Threatened with the loss of her mate, the one she cannot live without, Madly must pull herself together and capture the Lore, but something dark arises within her, threatening to take over her.  Will her love for Jackson and his love for her be enough to pull her through, and can Madly ever recover from the hurt and betrayal that has broken her heart?

Okay, I have to go kind of fan girl with this book.  I absolutely and completely loved it.  OMG - Jackson is simply to die for.  How could I have missed this book and Jackson for so as long as I did.  He is absolutely yumtastic.  The drama in this book totally blew me away.  I can't say too much without spoiling it, but at one point, my heart was so crushed I thought I was going to die. For real.  I was riding an emotional roller coaster and could not get off.  M. Leighton took this series to a whole new level with Madly and the Jackal.  My heart strings were pulled upon until I wasn't sure if they could recover, but Leighton pulled this together in the end and I was finally able to breathe again, that is in between the hot, steamy, sexy scenes.   I am still on the edge of my seat, anxious to see what is going to happen to these two and this series in the next installment.  If you love paranormal romance and the stories dreams are made of, then Madly and the Jackal is one book you will want to put on the top of your TBR list.  I can't wait until I have the time to sit down and read it again.

With that said, let me leave you with this short excerpt from the book:

Cupping the back of my neck with one hand, he pulled me toward him and pressed his lips to my forehead then leaned against it.  "You know we can get through anything, right?  Whatever it is?"  I smiled.  "I know.  As long as I have you, the rest doesn't matter."  "Then the rest will never matter, because you will always have me, Madly. Always." And maybe for the first time ever, I believed him.
