Redemption (Redemption Trilogy#1)

by R.K. Ryals
Published October 11, 2012

“The Time has come when He will come looking. She is ready. I have faith in her. She is her father’s daughter. She carries my blood. And I will never forgive myself for feeding her to the wolves.” Bezaliel from Redemption

Dayton Blainey is a foul-mouthed, grief stricken teenager forced to live with a religiously eccentric aunt she barely knows following the death of her parents. Often upstaged by her moral older sister, Amber, Dayton is often flung into the shadows. Little does she know that there is more to her than meets the eye.

When Dayton's Wiccan best friend, Monroe, sees a vision outside Dayton's bedroom window, a catalyst of events is set in motion that will change Dayton's life forever. She is faced with one major question: Who is she?

Dayton and her friends discover the truth behind this question is so much bigger than anyone ever imagined.

Redemption is the story of one young woman who must disentangle herself from a web of lies endangering her soul, and who discovers an attraction to a mysterious stranger that may just kill her.

My Thoughts:  When I first started this book, I had a hard time figuring out exactly what was going on, but when I did, boy was I hooked.  Dayton and her sister Amber lost their parents when she was 10 years old.  Forced to live with their emotionally distant aunt at the Abbey (which is sort of like a religious convent) Dayton's only support has been her best friends, Monroe and Conor, who are more like family to her.  As she approaches her 17th birthday, she finds things changing.  Her aunt and the evil Damon have plans for her that she wants no part of.  As their plans are put in motion, Dayton Blainey finds herself bound to Marcas Craig and caught up in a world she really wasn't even sure she believed in.  As she faces the fact of who and what she is and who and what Marcas is, they find themselves inducted into something that could change the order of the supernatural world in a way never seen before.  Everyone wants her dead, and she finds herself having to trust the one person she wants to hate.

Let me just say Dayton rocked.  She is funny, tough, snarky, and outspoken, and she is not afraid to stand up to anyone.  I really liked her character.  Marcas was dark and mysterious, but sexy, even though he could be a real pain.  There is chemistry between these two, really hot chemistry, even though neither of them will admit it.  I really liked Conor and Monroe also, and they each have their own unique stories.  Each chapter in the book begins with a quote from Bezaliel, and when you find out who he is, things begin to come together in the book and really start to click.  As I said above I was hooked and literally didn't want to put the book down once I got into it.  There is action, drama, mystery, all kinds of paranormal and spiritual beings, demons, angels, gargoyles, witches, and a Naphil.  There is the perfect amount of humor inserted into the intense drama throughout the story, and you can't help but fall in love with the characters in the book.  The plot is great.  It was refreshing and entertaining, and this is a great beginning to an awesome series.  I am so glad I was able to have access to the whole series at one time.  I would have been pulling out my have if I had to wait for the next book.  If you love paranormal romance with action, adventure, drama, angels, demons, and all kinds of supernatural things going on, this is one series you will most definitely want to read.

(Short excerpt from book 1) -  The attendant walked by and I asked for a pillow.  "Can I get you anything else?" she asked pleasantly.  I hooked y thumb in Marcas' direction.  "A new husband.  You can have this one."  "Ma'am?' The attendant asked.  I waved my hand.  "Sorry, Lover's quarrel.  Give us some time.  You know what they say about makeup sex."

"Like you know anything about that."  Marcas muttered.  "Are you always this aggravating?"

"Pretty much."  Marcas moaned.  "This is going to be one helluva long flight," I heard him whisper.

Ransom (Redemption #2)
by R.K. Ryals
Published March 8, 2012

Vengeance is the path of the Damned. It is not a path taken lightly. For a Naphil, it could mean ransoming his soul.

Dayton Blainey is caught between two worlds: Heaven and Hell. Bound to a Demon she's beginning to care about, she is thrown into an adventure she may not survive.

But she will try.

Separated from her friends, she is forced to use powers she just discovered she had while surviving the wrath of a Demon queen.

She will be tested.

And in the search for a ring that may unbind her from Marcas Craig, Dayton will discover that the bond between an Angel and a Demon goes much deeper than blood.

She will endure.

My Thoughts:  Ransom picks up where the first book in the series, Redemption leaves off.  Dayton Blainey,  is bound by blood to Marcas Craig, and they are now in search of the one thing that may unbind them, Solomon's ring.  As they embark upon this quest, the danger that they face is unimaginable.  The battle between good versus evil intensifies, as does the threat to Dayton and Marcas, as well as their feelings for each other.

We get to see many of the same characters we were introduced to and came to love in the Redemption in Ransom, and we are introduced to quite a few new characters as well.  In their quest for the ring, Dayton and Marcas, along with the angel Sophia and the fallen angel Lucas, are forced into Hell to deal with the wrath of Lilith, Marcas' mother.  Dayton more than proves herself while there.  We begin to see and learn more about Marcas in this novel, and Dayton comes to realize her feelings for him, and he for her.  An unlikely alliance has arisen to fight together against the demonic hoards that are seeking to destroy them, even drawing the attention of Lucifer himself, and then they face a surprise attack by the evil demon Damon.

This book was so awesome.  I can't say enough how great this series is.  I was completely enthralled from beginning to end.  There is nonstop drama and action.  The romance is hot, and the story line and characters are great.  This is one series you won't want to miss.

(Quotes from book 2) -  I sobbed as Marcas ended the vision abruptly, his lips suddenly crashing down onto mine.  It was an odd moment for a kiss, and yet so right.  An awful memory, a heartbreaking scene replaced by a forceful caress......He was giving me a part of himself, his lips almost violent as I sobbed against him, my kiss filled with all of the emotions I'd had pent up since we met.

"If you're trying to convince me he is evil, you failed.  Everyone has the capacity for evil.  But evil doesn't have the capacity to be merciful."

Retribution Redemption #3)

by R.K. Ryals

Love can overcome many odds. And while this emotion is worth many trials and tribulations, it can also lead to death.

It is a love that is forbidden . . .

Dayton Blainey is the only sane Naphil ever to walk the face of the Earth, and she's in love with a Demon she's been bound to by blood.

Can love triumph over fate . . .

Marcas Craig is the Demon son of Lilith and Cain. He has a destiny he has turned his back on for Dayton.

There is only one choice . . .

Kidnapped by Marcas' insane twin brother, Damon, Dayton has become a pawn in Damon's fanatical attempt at securing his own redemption. The Seal is now in the hands of a mad Demon, there is a civil war brewing in Hell, and Dayton and Marcas' love could destroy Earth.

In the end, will love conquer all?

My Thoughts:  Retribution again picks up where Ransom left off.  The love Marcas and Dayton have for each other is undeniable and their loyalty to each other runs deep.  Dayton finds herself in the hands of Damon again, and Marcas is determined to save her.  With the Seal now in the hand of Damon, things have changed.  This sets into motion a series of events which will test the loyalty and strength of the love Marcas and Dayton have for one another, as they face Heaven, Hell, and everything in between.

This book was even better than the first two.  There is nonstop, heart wrenching drama, intense battles, romance, it has it all.  Marcas partners with the exiles to save the hybrids, the children of Cain and Lilith, his brother and sisters.  The fallen angels, the SOS, and many others have chosen to back him as he prepares to challenge Hell.  Dayton is by his side.  She is the only one he truly trusts, and if the truth be known, the feeling is mutual.  Even though she knows everyone loves her, it is only Marcas who lets her make her own choices.  As they enter into the most difficult battle they will ever face their love is tested beyond anything they could have ever imagined, even facing death.  I found myself sitting straight up while I was reading this, absolutely dying to see what happened next, yet nervous at the same time.  I can't say enough about how much I enjoyed this series and how much I recommend it, and it ended really, really well.  R.K. Ryals has done an outstanding job with The Redemption Trilogy.

(Quotes from Book #3)  "We are stronger, Dayton.  Together, we are powerful.  Trust me."  Trusting him wasn't hard, the idea of losing him was.... "Fight, Day.  Whatever happens, fight.  I am coming."

"I'll never forsake you," Marcas said.  I wondered if he knew how much those words meant to me.  It was more powerful than "I love you."  He would never abandon me.

About this author

I am a Native Mississippian who started writing in elementary school. I was a reserved child who threw away almost everything I wrote. Later, when I was older, I discovered the crumpled pieces of my work in a box in my mother's hope chest. When I asked her why she saved the work, she replied,

"What you considered trash, I considered genius."

It has been my motto ever since. My mother passed in 2005. She is missed.

I am the scatterbrained (no lie) mother of three, and I live in Mississippi with my husband and three divalicious daughters and a female shitszu (also a diva)named Tinkerbell. My poor husband!
