Ever since a near-death-experience on the operating table, seventeen-year-old Arianne Wilson can see dead people. Just as she’s learned to accept her new-found talents, she discovers that the boy she’s had a crush on since freshman year, Niko Clark, is a Reaper.
At last they have something in common, but that doesn’t mean life is getting any easier. All while facing merciless bullying from the most powerful girl in school, Arianne’s world is turned upside down after Niko accidentally reaps the soul of someone she loves. This sends them both into a spiral that threatens to end Arianne’s life.
But will Niko break his own Reaper’s code to save her? And what would the consequences be if he did?
My Thoughts: Arianne Wilson has had a huge crush on Niko Clark since he transferred to her school when they were freshmen. Niko Clark never even knew Arianne existed, until they were thrown together as lab partners in chemistry. With one look at her, Niko couldn't imagine how he had ever missed this "exquisite" creature. Needless to say, Arianne was thrilled that Niko finally noticed her. There is one little problem, well make that more than one, and maybe the problems are quite so little. First of all, Arianne's arch nemesis, Darla, the most popular girl in school, who is also the biggest bully in school, doesn't want Arianne to have anything to do with Niko. Then, there is also the fact that Niko isn't human. You see, Niko is a Reaper. Arianne knows Niko is different, and she doesn't have a problem with that. After all, she sees dead people. Yet when she accidentally sees him reap the soul of someone close to her, someone she loves, everything changes. especially when Niko must make a decision between love and duty.
This was as interesting novel. I enjoyed the concept and found the story enjoyable. I liked Arianne's character. I really liked Niko. He was all kinds of hot. Then, there is Ari's life-long best friend Ben, who is super hot to. There are quite a few other characters in the book that were well-written and fun to get to know. The cover to this book is absolutely beautiful, but once you read the book, you understand the deeper meaning behind it. The romance was sweet. There is no love triangle, which was refreshing, and I really enjoyed the friendship that Ari and Ben shared, and the romantic relationship that developed between Ari and Niko. The ending is different and kind of sad, and I am still not sure how I feel about it, but I am definitely looking forward to the next book in the series to see where the story goes from here.
