“Forbidden love on a paradise planet that’s anything but paradise...Dionne’s Colonization will keep you guessing.” – Cherie Reich, author of Defying Gravity

Blurb:

Finding a new home has never been so dangerous.

Andromeda has spent all seventeen years of her life aboard a deep space transport vessel destined for a paradise planet. Her safe cocoon is about to break open as Paradise 21 looms only one month away, and she must take the aptitude tests to determine her role on the new world and her computer
assigned lifemate. As a great-granddaughter of the Commander of the ship, she wants to live up to her family name. But, her forbidden love for her childhood friend, Sirius, distracts her and she fails the tests. The results place her in a menial role in the new colony and pair her with Corvus, “the oaf”.

But when Andromeda steps foot on Paradise 21, her predestined future is the least of her worries. Alien ghosts from a failed colonization warn her of a deadly threat to her colony. And when Sirius's ship crashes on the far ridge in an attempt to investigate, she journeys to rescue him with Corvus.

Andromeda now must convince the authorities of the imminent danger to protect her new home. What she didn't expect was a battle of her own feelings for Sirius and Corvus.

Can she save the colony and discover her true love?

My Thoughts:  In this futuristic story Andromeda, better known as Annie, finds herself at 17 years old, about the face the greatest and most challenging thing in her life.  Annie has spent her entire life on a spaceship, which her great grandfather is the commander of.  They are about to reach their destination, and not only must she cope with that, now that she is 17, she must take a test to find out her job assignment, as well as being assigned a life mate, which is all done by computer.  She longs to be paired with her best friend, the oh so hot Sirius.  When this doesn't happen and she finds herself partnered with Corvus, and is very distraught.  As they land in this new world and acclimate to it, establishing their colony there, strange things begin to happen, which Annie finds herself right in the middle of.  She also begins to find herself having feelings she thought she never would for Corvus.  Corvus is a hottie to, but in a different way than Sirius.  When a strange illness threatens the lives of two people, and Sirius disappears after Andromeda convinces him to help her find the answer to what is going on, it is up to Annie to save them.

With Corvus' help, the two of them set off to find Sirius and his crew, and hopefully find the answers that will save the colony.  Their perilous journey also brings Annie and Corvus closer together, as she sees a whole new side to him that she hadn't opened herself up to before.  They must race against time and the elements to save not only her friends, but the entire colony, but as circumstances get more serious, will they be able to do this, and convince everyone of the truth before it's to late for them all?

Colonization is a YA science fiction/fantasy/romance that I enjoyed.  The story was original and entertaining.  At first I wasn't sure if it was for me, but soon found myself engrossed in the story.  I  loved Andromeda/Annie, who ended up being quite the heroine.  I also really liked Corvus, he was sincere and desired nothing more than to help and support Annie, and he turned out to be hero material himself.  I enjoyed the relationship that developed between these two, as Annie struggled with her feelings for both Sirius and Corvus. Both Annie and Corvus were kind of slackers in school, but impressed me in that they rose to the occasion and really proved themselves.  I liked Sirius also, but he tended to let what those in charge thought of him take priority over his relationships.  Annie has to face her feelings and choose between the boy she has always loved and the boy who is now winning her heart.  There was quite a bit of adventure, paired with the science fiction and fantasy elements, as well as romance.  Overall, I enjoyed this story.  If you are looking for a quick and enjoyable read, and are a science fiction fan, then you might want to check Colonization out.
