Derailed (Clayton Falls #1)

Published September 23, 2012
When you're lost, sometimes the only place you can go is home.
Broken over the death of her fiancé, Molly leaves law school to return to her childhood home in North Carolina. Expecting to lay low until she can figure out what else to do with her life, she finds herself in the arms of her high school sweetheart, the boy who represents everything from the past she tried to leave behind.

Looking for an escape, she instead finds a way back to the girl she almost forgot existed and a future she never dreamed possible.

My Thoughts:  Molly Sanders is in her first year of law school in Boston.  The life she had planned out, the goals she had for herself, her dreams are all falling apart, and she realizes that she doesn't want to be a lawyer at all.  Her fiance's death has left her rattled, really rattled, and this isn't the first time that tragedy has overtaken Molly's life.  It was a tragedy that caused her to leave her home and the love of her life to go to Boston, and now it is a tragedy that is bringing her back to Clayton Falls and all the memories that are held there.  Burdened with grief and guilt over Adam's death and the death of her father so many years ago, has taken its toll on Molly.  She doesn't sleep much anymore because the nightmares consume her.  Upon returning to Clayton Falls, her best friend Kelly immediately pulls her out of her shell and back into society, even trying to fix her up on a date, which doesn't go over well.  Then, when does see Ben again and looks into his eyes, she remembers why she loved him so much.  Unwilling to admit this, and feeling like she doesn't deserve it, like she is poison, she is determined not to let things get serious between them again.  Ben has other ideas, and he doesn't give up easily.  Can love that is lost be found again?

I enjoyed Derailed very much.  My heart broke for Molly and all that she went through, and rejoiced with her as she tried to find joy, forgiveness, and love again.  I really liked Ben.  He's hot and he sings in a band.  He was relentless and even though Molly pushes him away, he doesn't give up.  He has a temper and has a tendency to be possessive, so he isn't perfect, but that made be like him all the more.  Kelly, Molly's BFF was a lot of fun also.  I didn't care for Gavin (the guy from the date she wasn't crazy about).  He was kind of a jerk, though he did have a few insightful moments.  I liked the relationship and romance between Ben and Molly, and enjoyed seeing that being rekindled and developed in the story.  I especially liked the ending.  It even has an epilogue, which is something I love.  Derailed is a great story and if you are a contemporary romance level, this book is something you should check out.  .

  7. I love that we love the same kinds of characters. I know some people were turned off by his possessiveness but it didn’t bother me at all. As long as it doesn’t cross a line. And I’ve said this before, the more flaws, the better then I get to enjoy their transition and learning process that much more.

PS, you said you just bought Ella and Micha right? OMG, Ellen you HAVE to read this! I loved this book so much and I think (hope) you will too!
