Relocating to Savannah might have saved Curry and Chansey from being discovered by Marsala, but it doesn’t stop her attempts to reach Curry or her efforts to harm Chansey through the use of black magic. As Marsala closes in, Curry faces the decision he never wanted to make. Will he keep Chansey human or condemn her to eternity as the thing he hates most?

As Curry waits for his hand to be forced, a newly turned vampire arrives at the Savannah compound in need of help. Not only is she a fledgeling in transition, she brings reports of escaping from a vampire cult still in possession of her sister, a human. Any attempt to save the captive human from a cult of vampires puts everyone in jeopardy. Can they risk entering a large cult to save one human being? And is so, how could they possibly do it successfully?

Blood Jewel Excerpt-

I waited until she was asleep to leave her side, slipping away as quietly as a thief in the night. My family was no longer gathered in the dining room and I walked outside to find Gia and Lairah in the pool taking a late night swim.
“Tell me you didn’t leave your bride in the bed alone,” Gia huffed.
“She’s not my bride. She’s my fiancé and I need your help with something big. Tomorrow is Chansey’s birthday and I need some ideas. I want to take her into the city and do something special, but I have no idea what.”
“Well, you made the right decision by coming to us instead of that buffoon you call your best friend. Really? What is his deal?” Lairah said.
“I think he’s jealous,” Gia answered. “And yes, Solomon...I know you can hear me inside the house.”
“Take it easy, girls,” I urged.
“Alright, we’ll forget the buffoon and get back to the task at hand. You’ve already given her the most precious piece of jewelry she’ll ever wear. Any type of bling-bling you come up with will only pale in comparison, so you shot yourself in the foot when it comes to jewelry,” Lairah told me.
“She loves your art, so paint her something. You can have it ready by tomorrow because you’re so awesome,” Gia suggested.
I blew that one, too. “That’s not going to work. I did a soft pastel of her on the day I met her, so anything I did would pale in comparison to that. Now, I’ve shot myself in the foot when it comes to art.”
Solomon walked out of the house and added, “Nice going, one trick pony.”
“In my own defense, she was never suppose to see it. It was supposed to be for my own private collection.”
Sol jumped into the pool with the girls and then came up. He ran his hands back over his slick dark hair. “I’m not jealous. If anyone is jealous it’s the two of you with your crazy ideas and dreams of romance that’s never going to happen for you. Both of you are living vicariously through this poor human girl and she’s probably scared to death to tell either of you ‘no.’Shame on both of you.”
“You’ve become such an ass since Curry found Chansey. There’s no way you’re not jealous. I just haven’t figured out if it’s because Chansey is taking Curry away from you or because you want an Agápe too,” Gia accused, then bumped fists with Lairah.
A smug look crossed Sol’s face. “Well, this ass has a perfect idea for Chansey’s birthday, so do you want to know what it is or not?”
I threw my hands up. “Hey, I didn’t accuse you of anything. You’ve always been an ass in my book and that hasn’t changed since Chansey came along,” I joked.
He nodded in recognition and said, “You damn skippy.”
I was anxious to hear his suggestion. “So, what’s your idea, Skippy?”
“If I’m right, Chansey is so going to dig this and you’ll score some major fiancé/husband/Agápe points with her. Do you remember when you went back to Pascagoula about twelve years ago and went by your house?”
I was puzzled by where this was going. “Yeah , I remember.”
“If I recall correctly, you had just become very interested in photography and you took a lot of pictures of the house. You made me look through like five thousand pictures I cared nothing about, but I remember the owners were in some of them and they were having a birthday party for a kid out in the yard. Is it possible for that to have been Chansey and her family? If it was her, then you saw her for the first time when she was a kid and you captured it on film.
He was right. I went crazy taking pictures that day and used every roll of film I had with me. “You are absolutely brilliant, Sol. Girls, you can’t call him a buffoon anymore.”
Gia splashed water at Sol and said, “You don’t know if that was Chansey and her family, so we reserve the right to call him a buffoon until we have proof otherwise.”
Sol dunked Gia and when she came up, he said, “You are both going to eat your words on this one, girls. There’s no doubt in my mind that those negatives are full of Chansey Leclaire and her family because he was like a madman with all of the pictures he took of that girl and her family. At the time, I wondered if he was some kind of weird vampire pedophile, but it all makes sense now. It didn’t matter that she was a child. Even then, he was drawn to her because she was his Agápe.”
“I think you’re right and what makes this even more awesome is that Chansey told me today that she has no pictures of her family together because she lost all of them in Hurricane Katrina.” I started walking toward the house. “I’ve got to find those negatives before Chansey wakes up. Thank you, Sol. I don’t know what I’d do without you.”
“Yeah, I know. I’m pretty awesome,” he boasted.
I went to my old darkroom where I kept my negatives filed away and began my search. Ugh! I should have filed these by date or something because I had years and years of negatives to search through. My heart pounded as I searched and I prayed Sol was right. Please let it be Chansey and her family.
After twenty minutes of searching, I found the negatives from that day. I held them up to the light and saw the outline of a family but even my vampire vision couldn’t make out if it was Chansey and her family or not.
I stopped using film when digital photography became popular, so it had been years since I printed photographs from negatives, but I didn’t need any of those supplies because I could scan the negative and upload it to my computer. Got to love technology.
I silently went to my bedroom and moved all of my necessary equipment to another bedroom so I wouldn’t wake Chansey and ruin the surprise. I scanned the negatives and waited to see the images on my computer screen. And there she was...a young Chansey with her family. I was ecstatic because I was going to be able to give her the one thing no one else could...an intact photograph of her family together.
I printed the best one on canvas and chose a few others for an album before I went back out to the pool to tell the others my good news.
I held up one of the photos and said, “Well, ladies, here’s the proof. I’m afraid you better come up with another name for Sol besides buffoon because he was right. It was Chansey and her family.”
“Dammit!” Gia swore as she slapped the water. “I’m sorry, Curry. I didn’t mean that. I’m happy for you.”
Sol got out of the pool and reached for one of the two towels on the table. “I think Mr. Fabulous has a nice ring to it.”
Lairah was fuming. “Well, I think jerk off sounds more like it. You didn’t bring a towel with you, so that means you just stole one of ours.”
“Sorry ladies, it’s one of the perks of being Mr. Fabulous,” he said as he used one of their towels to dry off.
“You make me want to throw up,” Gia gritted through her teeth.
Sol enjoyed the aggravation he was causing and said, “Darling, you haven’t thrown up since you were human.”
“Whatever, jerk off.”
Lairah attempted to cool Gia saying, “Calm down, girl. You’re giving him way too much satisfaction by getting all riled up.” She turned to me and continued, “I was thinking while you were inside. I know of a cool band playing tomorrow night at a club on Bourbon. My friend, Jett, plays bass. Chansey is musically inclined, so I know she will love to hear them. Why don’t we all meet at the club after you take her to dinner and we’ll celebrate her birthday together with a night out on the town? We’ll show her how to party vampire style.”
“I think she would love that and your suggestion gave me an idea. Do you think I could get your cool band to do a special song request?”
“Jett will do anything for me,” Lairah promised.
“And is your friend, Jett, a human or a vampire?” I questioned.
“He’s human, but he’s so cool. I wish he was vampire because I could so dig him if he was. What do I need to tell him to play?”
“Van Morrison’s ‘Steal My Heart Away.’It was playing during our first dance.”
“Nice one,” Lairah complimented.
“It was such a bittersweet first dance because I thought it was our first and last. I loved her so much and I thought I was about to leave her forever.”
“It was your choice to leave, you ignoramus. Nobody forced you. Maybe you’re the buffoon instead of Solomon,” Lairah laughed.
“That’s what I’m talking about...someone else being the buffoon,” Solomon interjected.
“I realized my mistake and it won’t happen again. That I can promise you.”

Meet Georgia Cates -

I am a wife, mother of two daughters and a labor and delivery nurse. I have recently added Paranormal Romance Writer to my list of things to keep be busy, but I am ecstatic to release my  debut novel, Blood of Anteros, the first book inThe Vampire Agápe Series.

Like others that enjoy a great story of paranormal romance, I am easily bored by the tale of an obtainable, ordinary romance and was inspired to create The Vampire Agápe Series. When I am not tied up with my family or delivering babies, I am working feverishly on the second book in The Vampire Agápe Series.

Review: Set in Stone by Beth Balmanno

Today's post is a review on the book Set in Stone by Beth Balmanno.  On Monday, we featured a guest post by Beth, the topic was "Who I Write For."  Please click here to view that post, and be sure to enter to win an e-book of Set in Stone below.

Set in Stone
by Beth Balmanno
Published February 4, 2012
Rating:  5/5 Stars

Description:  Fifteen year-old Valerie is used to losing things–she lost her dad to his job ages ago and her best friend moved with no warning...and hasn't been heard from since. During a weekend camping trip with her emotionally distant parents, she stumbles upon a hidden, mysterious stone and she finds herself desperate to keep it, to possess it. Two strange and beautiful boys have other plans, however. They follow her home–Leo, warm and seductive, who covets the stone and will stop at nothing to get it; and Noel, dark-haired and wise, who pledges to protect her and keep her safe.

As she delves deeper into the magic of the stone and the Celtic lore that surrounds it, Valerie realizes that she's losing. Again. But this loss might involve more than a magical stone – this time, she just might lose her heart.

My Thoughts:  While hiking on a camping trip 15-year-old Valerie falls, ends up off the trail, and find herself in a strange place in the forest where she finds a beautiful, mysterious stone.  She knows the stone is special, but she doesn't tell anyone about it.  Almost immediately, a beautifully tempting dark-haired guy shows up, but Valerie knows something isn't quite right about it all.  The next thing she knows, this same hot guy has enrolled in her school.  Not only is he now attending, but his brother Leo, who is blonde, tanned, and has an irresistible pull about him is also attending.  She ends up telling her friend Geoff about everything and he tries to help her find out the origins of the stone, and the mysterious guys who seem to want it.  Noel, the dark hottie, ends up falling for Valerie and pledges to keep her safe.  As Valerie delves into finding the truth about the stone and the two mysterious boys, what she discovers is almost beyond belief, and Valerie has to make a very important decision that could change the world.

I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed this book.  I was hooked from the beginning.  The story and the characters were unique, fresh, and creative.  The Celtic lore concept surrounding the stone and the mythological element surrounding the story and the characters was brilliant.  I don't want to give too much away about that, because that is part of what makes this book so amazing.  I loved seeing Valerie's character develop in strength throughout the novel.  Leo and Noel were Gods, and totally hot. I loved the romance between Noel and Valerie, and felt like I was experiencing the whole gamut of emotions Valerie did, right along with her.  The book is filled with twists and turns, and just when you think you know what's next, Beth takes the story in a different direction, keeping you guessing and intrigued the whole time.  Romance, mythology, magic, hot guys, great plot - Set in Stone has it all and I would definitely recommend it.

Waiting on Wednesday: 5/30/12

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Jill from Breaking the Spine. It's just a quick look at the books we're all looking forward to.

This week I am really anticipating and looking forward to the release of Leif (Existence 2.5), a novella by Abbi Glines.  The expected publication date is July 2012.

"She was mine.
I owned her soul.
Until, Death stole her heart."
    Leif

Here is the blurb from Abbi Glines website about the Leif:  While writing Predestined, I fell in love with Leif. He is misunderstood and he has a pretty whacked up life. I knew that I would have to give him his own trilogy in 2013. However, before I can do that, I wanted to share with readers Leif's POV from Predestined. Give them a closer look into his life and let them into his head. There were so many things Pagan didn't know about Leif and her history with him. The idea behind Leif was born. I am not giving an exact date just yet but I can tell you that Leif will release this summer. It will be a novella and although many of the scenes will be ones you remember from Predestined, Leif has a story all his own to tell.

The Vincent Brothers by Abbi Glines

The Vincent Brothers (The Vincent Boys 2)
by Abbi Glines
Expected Publication Date:  June 5, 2012
Source:  e-ARC provided by Author
Rating:  5/5 Stars

Description:He may have given her up without a fight, but Sawyer Vincent is far from over losing the girl he’s loved all of his life. Instead of giving up his best friend and the girl he thought he’d spend forever with, he gave Ashton and his brother Beau his blessing. However, adjusting to seeing Ashton wrapped up in Beau’s arms isn’t easy. Complicating everything even more, Ashton’s cousin Lana is in town for the summer. Sweet, kind, soft-spoken Lana, who gets under his skin. Just being near her makes him forget all about Ashton and his broken heart. Lana is everything he wanted Ashton to be except she isn’t Ashton. She lacks the backbone to stand up for herself and confidence that Ashton wears like a crown.

Lana McDaniel has lived her life in her cousin's shadow. While Lana struggled with her grades no matter how hard she tried, her mother praised Ashton's intelligence. She hadn’t been blessed with Ashton’s blond hair and flawless skin, but that didn't keep her mother from lamenting her naturally red hair and freckles. But none of that would have mattered if Ashton hadn’t always had Sawyer Vincent wrapped around her finger -- the only boy Lana wanted. Once Ashton let Sawyer go, Lana had been so sure that he’d move on. Determined to make Sawyer finally see her, she'd talked her mother into letting her spend the summer with Ashton. But Sawyer is still in love with Ashton, and Lana isn’t going to be anyone's rebound girl. No matter how yummy Sawyer Vincent’s kisses taste.

My Thoughts:  First of all let me say that I am a total Abbi Glines fan.  I was ecstatic when I found out she was writing The  Vincent Brothers, because I totally and completely fell in love with Beau Vincent in The Vincent Boys.  To me, Beau Vincent is the epitome of hotness.  When I found out that The Vincent Brothers was about Sawyer Vincent, I wondered if it could possibly be as good as the first book, but true to form, Abbi Glines NEVER disappoints.  The Vincent Brothers was amazing.  The story picks up six months after Sawyer and Ashton have broken up and he gave his blessing to her to be with Beau, only Sawyer is finding this to be a lot harder than he anticipated.  Despite the time frame, he is as angry as ever, every time he sees them together.  Lana McDaniel, Ashton's cousin, has always had a thing for Sawyer.  As a matter of fact, Sawyer was the main reason she was coming to spend the summer in Alabama with Ashton, only the Lana from six months ago isn't the same Lana that she used to be, having undergone a transformation, now no longer prim, proper and reserved, but smoking hot, which did not go unnoticed by Sawyer, or the other guys in the story.

This is Sawyer and Lana's story, and let me tell you, the Sawyer Vincent that we got to know in The Vincent Boys is not the same Sawyer Vincent that we get to know in The Vincent Brothers.  Granted Beau will always be my first choice (I always go for the hot bad boys), but Sawyer is coming in a close second.  Those Vincent Boys are pretty irresistible.  I really loved getting to know Lana.  I really liked her a lot.  Even though she puts up with a lot, she is quick to forgive, but also stands her ground.  The chemistry between Lana and Sawyer is sizzling.  Like I said, it is not the same Sawyer we got to know in book one.  There are some very hot scenes that left me fanning my face.  Sawyer is a jerk a few times, but he is very repentant afterwards, and it was touching to see him so sincere and emotional with his apology.  It made me want to go jump in his arms to.  It was also good to see what was going on with Beau and Ashton now, and some of the other characters, as well as getting to know some new ones.

I thoroughly enjoyed The Vincent Brothers and I am so happy to have had the opportunity to read and review it early.  Abbi Glines is an artist.  The pictures she paints with her words are nothing short of brilliant, enabling the reader to feel like you are right there in the middle of it all, watching and experiencing everything.  One thing I especially enjoyed was the ending of this book.  It left me feeling completely satisfied and happy with where the series went.  If you love contemporary romance that sizzles, with two of the hottest guys around, then I encourage you to read The Vincent Boys and The Vincent Brothers.

Here are a few teasers:

All you have to do is hold on tight. Wrap your legs and arms around me and I got the rest of this.” - Sawyer Vincent from The Vincent Brothers coming 6/5/12

A warm hand closed around my hand and I squeaked in suprise.  Sawyer chuckled and slipped his fingers between mine, "Come on sweet little Lana.  You can come entertain me since you've been stranded.  Besides, I've been looking at those sexy legs of yours all night.  You make them shorts look real good."  I gaped at him as he pulled me over to an empty couch.  Had Sawyer just said my legs were sexy?  I didn't have time to think about his statement before he was pulling me down to sit in his lap.

"With you, things are different.  I'm not sure what it is, but when I'm with you I feel something I've never felt before.  I do want you.  Bad.  It surprises me and scares the shit out of me............."

About the Author:  Abbi Glines can be found hanging out with rockstars, taking out her yacht on weekends for a party cruise, sky diving, or surfing in Maui. Okay maybe she needs to keep her imagination focused on her writing only. In the real world, Abbi can be found hauling kids (several who seem to show up that don’t belong to her) to all their social events, hiding under the covers with her MacBook in hopes her husband won’t catch her watching Buffy on Netflix again, and sneaking off to Barnes and Noble to spend hours lost in the yummy goodness of books. If you want to find her then check Twitter first because she has a severe addiction to tweeting @abbiglines.  She also blogs regularly, but rarely about anything life changing.  She also really enjoys talking about herself in the third person.

Who I Write For
 by Beth Balmanno

I met someone the other day, a friend of a friend. We were standing around, chatting, when she asked if I worked. I told her I was an author. She stared at me for a minute and asked, “Who do you write for?”

I was quick with my response. “Young adult.”

Because that's the genre I write. The genre I've always written, after my disastrous attempt at writing contemporary women's fiction (you can read about that here).

She nodded her head and didn't ask anything else. (Which, btw, is pretty common. I've found a lot of adults think I'm less of an author, not quite author enough, when they find out I only write YA. What. Ever.)

But later that night, after I'd tucked the kids into bed and flipped open the laptop to stare at the story I was working on, I started thinking more about that question. No one had ever asked me that before. Sure, other people had asked me about being a writer but it was always book specific.

“What's the name of your book?”
Set In Stone.

“What's your book about?”
Well, it's about a girl who finds a powerful stone and two gorgeous, mysterious boys who will stop at nothing to get it.

“Have you sold millions of dollars worth of books?”
Uh. No.

“When will they make it into a movie?”
 Uh...

“Oh, I have an idea for a book! How do I get it published?”
*smacks forehead and walks away*

So I thought about that question. Who do I write for? And I realized that, in actuality, I write for a lot of different people.

I mean, sure, my audience is intended for young adult but there has definitely been crossover. Women in their 40s and 50s have left me reviews on Amazon and Goodreads. Twenty-somethings have commented on how much they enjoyed the story. The audience was farther-reaching than I'd thought. And that thrilled me.

But it was more than that. I was starting to think of someone else...realizing that there was a different audience I write for.

My kids.
Noooo, the 6 year old is not reading Set in Stone. She's brilliant, but not that brilliant. And even though the 11 year old wants to read it and has started it, it's really just not his cup of tea, ya know?

But I didn't write it for them to read, necessarily. I wrote it—and continue to write—to inspire them (live your dreams!) and to support them (yes, we can go out for ice cream tonight! Mommy sold a book!). I write so that they can see their mom doing something she loves, something that really is her dream.

And there it was, staring me in the face. Another audience.

I write for myself.

Yep. Me.

See, for the longest time I didn't write. I was too busy being a mom and being a friend and being a housewife. I put aside everything, every piece of me, to become those other things. And when I finally decided enough was enough—I missed that part of me—I opened a blank document on my computer and took a deep breath and slowly began to write. It was terrifying. Exhilarating. And liberating.

Do I want people to read Set In Stone and Nine Lives and all of the other books nearing completion? Absolutely. Every storyteller wants to share...it's one of the main reasons we write. But it's not the only one.

Now, if someone asks me who I write for, I know exactly what I'm gonna say.

“My books are intended for a YA audience...but, ultimately, I write for me.”

What do you do for you?

Blog Tour: Frey by Melissa Wright

Welcome to my stop on the Frey Blog Tour hosted by Shadow Blog Tours.  Today Melissa is sharing a guest post featuring her playlist for Frey.  Please be sure to enter the giveaway below to win an e-book of Frey, and an e-book Pieces of Eight, the 2nd book in the Frey Saga.

Frey (The Frey Saga #1)
by Melissa Wright
Paperback, 2nd Edition, 243 Pages
Published:  December 6, 2011 by Lulu (first published July 25, 2011)

Description:  Unaware she's been bound from using magic, Frey leads a small, miserable life in the village where she's sent after the death of her mother. But a tiny spark starts a fury of changes and she finds herself running from everything she's ever known.

Hunted by council for practicing dark magic, she is certain she's been wrongfully accused. She flees, and is forced to rely on strangers for protection. But the farther she strays from home, the more her magic and forgotten memories return and she begins to suspect all is not as it seems.

My Thoughts:  I really enjoyed this book.  I wasn't really sure about it when I started, because I haven't been inclined to read many books about elves, but I was oh so pleasantly surprised with Frey.  The elves in Frey are definitely not of the Keebler variety.  Picture in your mind Legolas from Lord of the Rings, played by Orlando Bloom.  Now that is the kind of elves I am talking about.  Now that we have established the hotness of the elves, let's talk about the book.  Frey (short for Elfreda) lived with her Aunt Fannie, who was a mean old elf, after her mother died.  Frey wasn't able to do magic, as the other elves could, and she always seemed to feel out of place.  She couldn't remember much of her life before she came to live in the village.  Little did she know that her magic and her memories had been bound by the Council.  Despite this, Frey continued to have vivid dreams.  Some of her magic was beginning to return, and strengthened after she felt lead to start wearing a crystal around her neck that belonged to her mother.  The Council, fearful of black magic, had it out for Frey.  Enter at this point the hot elf Chevelle.  Frey felt like he was strangely familiar, but yet didn't know how she knew him.  He becomes her protector and her trainer, and they embark on a journey in order to take Frey back to her origins after Frey flees the village and the Council.  Their journey is filled with peril, adventure, magic, fairies, and of course another hot elf or two, along with some other very memorable characters.

Melissa Wright has done a wonderful job writing this fantasy series.  It is filled with magic, heartache, and adventure, with just the right amount of romance.  There is quite an array of characters, and they are well developed enabling you to actually feel like you get to know and interact with each of them .  I really loved getting to know Frey, Ruby, and Steed, as well as the others.  This was a fast-paced, interesting, and magical story, filled with adventure, which I thoroughly enjoyed.  After finishing Frey, I immediately purchased Pieces of Eight, the second book in the Frey saga, because I was so anxious to see what happened next.  I then went on to read Molly, Melissa Wright's latest release, a novella which takes place after Pieces of Eight.  Conception, the third book in the series is due to release later this year, and I am really looking forward to it.  If you enjoy magical fantasy reads with a mix of adventure and romance, then you should enjoy Frey.

Melissa's Playlist for Frey

Description:  Starting over sucks.  When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I'd pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring.... until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.  And then he opened his mouth.  Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something...unexpected happens.  The hot alien living next door marks me.  You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon's touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I'm getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades. If I don't kill him first, that is.

My Thoughts:  What can I say that you haven't already heard or read.  Daemon Black is hotness personified.  He has taken over the blogosphere and is making his presence known in a big way, but then who would expect anything less from Daemon (he certainly wouldn't).  When I first read Obsidian, I hadn't heard of Jennifer Armentrout or Obsidian, but was intrigued by the cover.  When I opened it, I didn't put it down until I finished it, and after experiencing almost every emotion possible, I became and forever will be a Jennifer Armentrout total fan girl and a Daemon Black stalker.  I guess that sounds pathetic, but it is what it is (smile).  The thing is, I think there are a lot more out there just like me (smiles again).  Needless to say, I have bought everything Jennifer Armentrout has written and have read them all, most more than once.  I actually purchased the new edition of Obsidian for the new Daemon POV's (and the first two chapters of Onyx).  Fan girl or not, Jennifer Armentrout is just that good.

Obsidian had me hooked from the first page, really from the cover.  Sometimes I wonder if it is ever made into a movie if they will ever find anyone to live up to the cover model's image.  Daemon is hot, but I said that already didn't I.  He is also arrogant, stubborn, vain, and loyal.  I love Katy.  I think she is awesome.  She is a fellow book lover and blogger, and she doesn't take any crap from Daemon.  I think she is one pretty kick-butt heroine.  The story absolutely sucks you in and you want to crawl up in there and live a while.  The chemistry between Daemon and Katy is off the scales hot, and so is the action and drama.  I love Dee, Daemon's sister and Katy's new BFF.  She is  a doll.  All the supporting characters are well written and you feel like you get to know them all....the good, the bad, and the ugly Arum.  Seriously, only Jennifer could make Aliens so interesting and so freaking hot.  If you haven't read it, you need to read it, for real, seriously, make the time, you won't be sorry.  There are some books that are on my to be read list, and some that are on my read again list, but Obsidian is on my read again and again and again list.

I wanted to leave you with a few teasers from Obsidian.  These are from the extras at the end of the book from Daemon's point of view.  Enjoy!

Eventually my gaze landed on the front of her shirt.  My Blog is Better than your Vlog.  What in the world did that mean?  And why would she have that on her shirt.....and the words "Blog" and "Better" were stretched taut.  I swallowed.  Not a good sign.

She really needed to get her cute ass off my porch before I did something stupid.  Like smile at the way she was blushing.  Sexy even.  "Going once...."

I knew I was being an ass at this point, but I was perversely enjoying the spunk slowly igniting behind her eyes, baiting me.  And....the flush of anger was sort of hot in a weird, there's really something wrong with me kind of way.

My hand stilled, but I didn't move it away.  Wasn't like she was going to fall on her face now, but I....I just didn't, and I wasn't at all okay with that.  I clenched my jaw.

My fingers slipped along the curve of her cheek as my head tilted.  I was going to regret this - holy crap was I ever, but I wasn't stopping.  Our lips were only a breath away......

"Nothing,"  I replied, jumping from the swing.  I glanced at a silent, dazed Kat.  Her gray eyes were still hazy and wide.  Freaking beautiful.  "Just earning bonus points."

If you haven't read Obsidian, I hope that after reading Daemon's teasers, you will want to, and if you have...... well, we all need as many swooning hot alien Daemon moments as we can get.

Hewhay Hall

Release Date: April 18, 2012
Genre: Paranormal
Publisher: Etopia Press

Purchase: Barnes and Noble | Amazon

An unsung hero's destiny--Slater's house of horrors. Fire-fighter Jude Elliott loses part of his leg trying to rescue a family held hostage during a terrorist attack. He journeys to mysterious Hewhey Hall, where it is told there are wondrous, magical cures. Little does Jude know that his destination is Slater The Prince of Envy's lair where demons reside and courageous souls are tormented... Can Jude escape Slater's house of horrors, or will he suffer for all of eternity?

Excerpt:
Jude stared down the hill at the glint on the water and then across to the fields baked hard by weeks of sun. He’d followed the directions to the letter, so this was the right place. But where was Hewhay Hall?
A row of swallows balanced on a wire stretching overhead, each facing the same way as Jude, who rested against a five-bar gate. They too seemed to be eyeing the fallen tree trunks that littered the overgrown path down the rocky hillside. They were lucky—they could fly, but Jude had to hobble.
The air moved on the other side of the marshland. He didn’t imagine it. A definite ripple, the kind that alters your vision when a migraine’s about to start. Although the shift was fleeting, he had the idea something was down there after all, very faint and hard to describe. The outline of a building? Or maybe just heat haze. Whatever, he’d come this far—he’d go and investigate.
The latch and hinges on the gate were so rusted, Jude couldn’t open it. Nothing for it, then, but to climb over. He propped his crutches against the wooden bars, placed his hands on the top, and hauled himself up so his right leg got a footing on a lower rung. Now he could sit on the top. He bent down, picked up what was left of his other leg, and maneuvered it over until he straddled the gate. It creaked under his weight. As he swung his right leg over, he teetered, tried to grab the top bar but lost his balance and fell headlong into a bramble patch.
Prickles stabbed him as he lay on his back, his whirling gaze locked on a wiggly jet trail in the cloudless sky. Once the world righted itself, he pushed himself up on his elbows and extracted some of the more painful brambles before rolling onto his right knee. His bum in the air, he hoped no one was looking and that he retained a shred of dignity as he balanced on his right leg and wobbled his way upright. As he tried to stand, his knee locked. He was a second away from landing back on the ground but he grabbed an oak tree trunk for support.
Bloody hell. Wasn’t it about time they gave him a prosthesis? He bent to rub his stump, still raw after all this time. Why wasn’t he healing?

What a Boy Needs
Expected Publication Date:  June 12, 2012

A companion novel to WHAT A BOY WANTS.

Jaden Sinclair knows he'll never amount to anything...so why would he deserve a girl like Priscilla Mendoza?

Since last summer, things have been screwed up between Jaden and Pris. He knows it's his fault, but that doesn’t stop him from wanting to go a few rounds with her new boyfriend. He also knows he’s the loser his dad calls him, but it doesn’t stop him from wanting her.

After getting a huge bomb dropped on him, Jaden lashes out and lands himself in jail. Everything in his chaotic life is turned upside down and to make it worse, his mom kicks him out in order to side with his dad. Yeah, he’s totally a prize for a girl like Pris.

Sebastian, Aspen, and Pris are all going places in their lives...and he knows he can't keep tagging along for the ride.

The group has one last chance for The Epic Adventure they've been looking for: a road trip to New York, where Jaden's friends will be going to college. Unfortunately, the more time Jaden hangs around Pris, the harder it is to keep the carefully constructed walls between them so she doesn't find out what a train wreck he really is.

When the trip ends, Jaden has to decide if he's ready to say goodbye to his friends, and the girl he loves. He knows what he needs, but will he be man enough to go for it?

Guest Post by Carrie Nyman:

To hook a young audience...

Youth in America are bombarded by materialism, instant communication, temptation, and violence in a way that they never have before. Turn on the hit show "Vampire Diaries" and you have sex, underage drinking, and prolific violence wrapped up in a pretty package. However, this show is also shrouded under a fantastical veil that removes the audience from the situation. It is not inclusive; therefore, it does not invite the audience in to be a part of it. It is this veil that keeps the actions portrayed on this series non-traumatic but still fairly controversial.

Between relationships, video games, movies, television, sports, and school, how can writers break through to young adults? And how do we hook the attention of an entire generation with the written word? We can identify with them. Character building, not an intriguing action, should be the basis of the hook. If we appeal to the humanity of the audience, we can build a relationship that is not easily severed.

Think about a favorite book that you have read recently. What about the first few pages reeled you in?

In the first book in the Vampire Diaries series, Elena has the issue of being placed into a very particular box. She knows what's expected of her. All of her actions (save for writing in her diary) are set in motion by others but she propels them. Why? Because she wants to fit in. She wants to be in control. Her insecurities are a vulnerability and so she locks them away. We can all empathize with this. When we want to fit in, we fake it if we have to. Only Stephan breaks down her barriers and show her that she doesn't always have to be what others want her to be.
In Unearthly, Clara has greatness thrust upon her while she is also the new kid in school (with unfortunate hair) who yearns to be close to the good-looking, popular Christian. Again, I think 90% of girls can relate.

And in the Harry Potter books, we have three possible heroes to identify with - just in case Harry, himself (an average person with extraordinary circumstances), isn't enough.
So when reading YA fiction, how do we get roped in? With everything else in our lives that tells us not to commit too much to one thing, sitting down with a book and reading the whole thing is made possible by the hook and mirco-tension within the text. As such, when we write YA fiction, we must give the audience a character that latches onto their soul but also presents enough mystery that we MUST KEEP GOING.

Within the first minutes of the movie "The Wrestler," we see a broken down has-been of a man sleeping in his car after a theatrical wrestling match. Kids come and knock on his car windows, effectively waking and angering the sleeping man. Why would these kids venture to do such a thing? Don't they know how volatile he is? The irony here is that he chases the kids - not to yell at them or punish them - but to play with them. At this, I had to know more. As a side note, my WWII historical fiction novel Why Aren't You Sweet Like Me?? starts in just this way: with a deep connecting insight into the main character. My work-in-progress, EMPIRE (which is YA fantasy) does as well.
So if you are writing to this age group, take your first few paragraphs. Are they memorable? Are they urgent? Do they create tension and mystery while also building a bridge? Read them aloud first, and then ask yourself: "If I didn't write this, would I be instantly connected?"

In this world of death and decay and debauchery, we, as writers, are in constant competition. We must seize control over other influences. Create worlds that are a safe haven from all that young adults must deal with today. Build a Hogwarts, a Forks, or a Middle Earth. Make maps, shape characters that take on their own life so much so that they can take over the story and you're simply an observer. But first, make sure that you have their full attention.
