Yours at Midnight by Robin Bielman

Lyric Whetsone only had eyes for Quinn Sobel’s brother Oliver, until a car crash took Oliver’s life on New Year’s Eve. Then, a moment of shared grief between Quinn and Lyric became something more impassioned, something that frightened Quinn so much he ran from Lyric’s bed and her life, disappearing for four long years.
Now Quinn’s back for another New Year’s Eve, struggling for closure, desperate to leave his grief in the past and make amends with the girl of his dreams.
But Lyric has a secret–one that could drive Quinn from her life forever. Will Quinn run away from the love and acceptance he’s always wanted…or will he claim his New Year’s kiss and make her his at midnight?

Interview with Robin Bielman:
Thanks so much for having me here on Always YA at Heart, Ellen! I’m so happy to be here and love reading YA as much as I love reading romance.

Where did the inspiration for your book come from?

Gosh, the story idea just sort of popped into my head. My publisher, Entangled Publishing, was looking for holiday and New Year’s Eve stories and I wanted to participate. Once I decided on a New Year’s theme, I knew I wanted to write something more family oriented than my last novella, and thankfully Lyric and Quinn’s story just poured out of me.

Are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?

Yours At Midnight isn’t based on events I’ve experienced or anyone I know personally. Although, I did lose my dad unexpectedly a few years ago so I could definitely identify with the feeling of missing a loved one and wishing he’d walk through the door again.

Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?

I’ve always loved to write. I did a lot of writing in college (give me a term paper over a test any day) and in my career before I became an author. It took me a while to figure out that I actually wanted to write books, though. It was a comment from a co-worker when I was freelance writing that set me on this path, and I’m forever grateful to her for planting that seed in my mind.

What books have influenced your life most?

This is a hard question. I have a confession to make—I was never a big reader until a few years ago. Growing up I read mysteries (loved Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys!), Stephen King, and Ray Bradbury. But we’re talking only a few books a year, so I’m doing some major catching up now and can’t really pinpoint any one book that’s influenced me. Several authors have, though.

If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor?

I actually have a wonderful mentor in Charlene Sands. She writes for Harlequin and has been so supportive, helpful, and generous. I’m also thankful to Vicki Lewis Thompson for her friendship and encouraging me to write young adult too.

Do you see yourself staying in the contemporary romance genre as a writer, or do you have plans to venture into other areas?

I love writing contemporary, but have also ventured into paranormal and sci-fi. (I guess maybe Mr. King and Mr. Bradbury did influence me.) Hopefully one day those will be available to readers too.

The new adult novels have become a really big hit lately. Have you or would you consider writing a new adult contemporary romance?

Absolutely! I love reading YA and new adult. My oldest son is in college and hearing about what’s going on with him has got my mind churning with story ideas.  I just need more hours in the day so I can get all the writing done that I want. I’m always wishing I could survive on three or four hours of sleep a night, but it’s just not happening. Zombie Robin is not a fun person to be around.

Can you share a little of your current work with us?

Sure! Thanks for asking. I’m currently finishing up a contemporary category romance with the working title Kissing the Maid of Honor. It’s an enemy to lovers, older brother’s best friend story that I’ve had the best time writing.

Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?

Thank You. Thanks for buying my books. Thanks for taking the time to read them. Thanks for your wonderful support. It means the world to me and I appreciate it more than I can say. I’m so very grateful.

And I’d love to give away an eBook copy of Yours At Midnight. Leave me a comment letting me know what you’re reading now (I’m always adding to my TBR pile!) and you’re entered. Open internationally.

A bit about Robin Bielman:
Robin Bielman lives in Southern California, a bike ride away from the ocean if she's feeling really adventurous. She loves books and baking and running on the treadmill while watching her favorite TV shows. When she's not reading or writing her next story, she's spending time with her high school sweetheart husband and two sons. She is addicted to cafe mocha's and if every day were Cupcake Day, she'd be a happy camper! She loves to connect with readers. You can find her on-line here:

My Review:  This was such a great novella and I adored it, devouring in a couple of hours.  I love romance, and this is just the type of story I really enjoy.  Lyric, Quinn, and his brother Oliver grew up together.  Quinn was always mean to Lyric growing up, but he really loved her, and Lyric was in love with Oliver, or so she thought.  When Oliver died in a car crash on New Year's Eve, everything changed.  Quinn and Lyric shared and night of passion after the funeral and then he disappeared from her life.  It is now 4 years later, Christmas Day, and when Lyric delivers her neighbor's escaped dog home, who does she find answering the door but Quinn.  What she doesn't know is that Quinn is there to apologize and make amends for what he has done.

Old habits die hard, and these two fall back into the pattern of arguing, though the love and sexual tension lies just beneath the surface.  Over the ensuing few days, as much as Lyric tries to prevent it, these two end up spending a lot of time together.  There is one problem.  Lyric has a huge secret, a secret which she hasn't told anyone about, and just as these two seem to be reconciling their differences and discovering something new, this secret threatens to tear them apart.

Your's at Midnight is a heart warming, romantic, and fun read.  The story line is great, as are the characters, and Quinn is such a hottie.  I loved the relationship between these two, and there are a couple of great steamy scenes also.  If you love romance and are looking for an quick, enjoyable, and entertaining read that leaves you feeling happy and warm all over (I know I sound cheesy, but I am such a sucker for a good romance), then Your's at Midnight is one book you should check out.

  23. HEA is always the best part of Romance novels. The more intense the obstacles and adversities they have to overcome the sweeter the HEA. Yours at Midnight sounds right up my alley. Thanks for the great interview and the review.

I'm currently ready Instinct by J.A. Garland and Tied To The Tycoon by Chloe Cox.
