Elfin, Book 1 in the Elfin Series
Publication Date: December 24, 2012
Before tonight Cassie Tate’s biggest concerns were whether she could pass Algebra and how she was going to keep Elora, her best friend, from dressing her in a skimpy fairy costume for Halloween. Her feet were firmly planted in suburban reality and she had no reason to believe her life would be anything but that of a typical teenager. That is until tonight, when Cassie saw something that no human was ever supposed to see; in the blink of an eye she was thrown into the world of the Light and Dark Elves.

He comes from a realm where light and dark have fought for millennia. He is of a race known to humans only in myths and legends. The darkness that lives inside him is a part of both who and what he is and it makes him the most gifted spy and assassin in the history of his time. His life is not his own; he lives in the service of the Dark Elf King. He slays who he must, has mercy on no one, is relentless in his hunt, and never tires of seeing his prey fall. He is Triktapic, assassin, spy, most feared of the Dark Elves.

Now, in the midst of his King’s complicated plans to expand the Dark Elves’ holdings into the mortal realm, for the first time, Trik finds his loyalties divided. For no Elf, Dark or Light, can turn away from their Chosen.

Unbeknownst to the mortal realm, the battle between Light and Dark is being brought to their doorstep. The only one who can keep it at bay holds darkness in his heart like a lover, and the one who can sway that heart must decide if she can look beyond his black past, beyond his evil nature and see the man he is destined to be.

The question must be asked, does love really cover a multitude of sins? Can true love actually conquer all or will his darkness consume those around him until all that stands is an assassin with the blood of the mortal realm on his hands?

My Thoughts:  I am a huge Quinn Loftis fan and absolutely love her Grey Wolves Series.  When I found out she was writing a a new series, Elfin, I was so excited.  Needles to say, she did not disappoint her readers, and true-to-form, she has yet written another book that will knock your socks off.  I absolutely loved the characters in Elfin.  Trik, well just picture Legolas from Lord of the Rings, Trik is even hotter, he's a bad boy, or I guess I should say bad elf, which makes him even more desirable, and his cocky attitude just completes the package.  I loved Cassie to.  She has a pure heart, and loves deeply, which also causes her to hurt deeply, but she has attitude to, and she is going to be quite the heroine in this series.  There are several secondary characters which were great and I look forward to getting to know them more as the series continues.  My favorite is Elora, Cassie's best friend.  If you have read Quinn's Grey Wolves Series, the Elora will remind you a lot of Jen, only with a Gothic style.  She is snarky, self-confident, tough, says what she means, and means what she says.  I just loved her.  I can't wait to see where Quinn takes Elora in this series, and I have an idea about who she might get together with, but we'll have to wait and see how that plays out.  The love interest.....Cassie and Trik's relationship will melt your heart, cause you to swoon, and then fan your face a little to.  I mean Trik has got it going on.  The story flows beautifully and the plot is intriguing and fresh.  Elfin is filled with action, adventure, fantasy, sizzling romance, danger, and humor.  My attention was captured from beginning to end and I can't wait to see what is coming next in this series.  If you are looking for a fantastic read, then this is one book you will want to check out.  I loved it.

Questions and Answers with Quinn:

Q)  What were the challenges (research, literary, psychological, and logistical) in bringing your characters to life?
A) I think one of the biggest challenges is making the teens seem real and relative. Despite it being paranormal fiction you still want your readers to be able to identify with the characters.

Q)  What are you working on now?
A)  Book 6, Fate and Fury in The Grey Wolves Series

 Q)  Is there a message in your novel/novels that you want readers to grasp?
A)  That unconditional love is a choice not a feeling. True abiding love comes through choosing daily to love a person who is essentially unlovable.

Some of my favorite quotes:
Trik’s hands tightened on her hips and his eyes narrowed. “We only have one Chosen.” “Ever?” She asked. “Ever,” he confirmed. “What now?” She watched in fascination as he licked his lips. She felt her face heat up in a blush when she saw a crooked smile lift his lips. He had noticed what she was staring at. “Want a taste?” He asked her suggestively. Cassie’s eyes widened. “Are you always this forward?” “You were the one staring at my lips like they were a succulent feast. Not that I’m complaining.”

Cassie rolled her eyes. “Fine, whatever. Can I go now?” “We are far from done, Cassie. You called for me.” She laughed. “In your dreams.” Trik smiled. She could tell that he knew something that she didn’t.   Something about his smile told her that she wasn’t going to like it. “Your soul did not like you touching another. It called to me.   It called so loudly and with so much pain that it brought me to my knees.” Trik didn’t gloat, he simply stated the facts. Somehow that made Cassie even angrier. “Well my soul is a dumbass who loves to be tortured.” Cassie decided to chalk that off as the alcohol talking but went ahead and went with it.

Cassie’s heart constricted in her chest and she felt something deep inside her burst forward and she knew what it was— her soul. “I feel like I want to crawl inside of you, Trik, like I can’t get close enough,” she confessed. Trik stroked her face, unable to keep from touching her. “I know the feeling,” he murmured.

“Are you alright?” He asked her softly. Cassie nodded. “What about you?” Trik chuckled. “I’ll be okay, beautiful. You are a temptation like I have never known. Everything inside me screams, she’s yours, take her, bring her into your world, bind her to you. It’s ingrained into my DNA, it’s written on my soul. You are a part of me and I long to be complete, I long to complete you. Physical intimacy is incredibly intense.” “Ya think?” Cassie snorted.

Cassie woke up Sunday morning feeling light and refreshed. She turned to find Trik sound asleep. She took the opportunity to study him. He was so handsome, from his shiny, dark hair, to his silver eyes that saw into her soul, to his strong jaw and straight nose. He was perfect, and he was hers. Suddenly his eyes snapped open as they met hers. A wide grin spread across his lips. “So, I’m yours?” ....“Do you hear that?” His fingers ran through her hair as he spoke. “My heart beats only for you. I may be yours, but you are every bit mine. So do not be embarrassed to feel that way. I like knowing that you are possessive of me.” He sounded so smug. Cassie rolled her eyes. “Could your ego get any larger?” “Maybe. Want to try stroking it?”

“You’re glowing,” Elora said to Cassie as they drove to her house. “Am I?” Cassie asked nonchalantly. Elora let out a disgusted groan. “I have a feeling that I should get used to the taste of vomit because I’m going to be throwing up in my mouth a lot around you two.”
