Temptations Fire
Shadowguard Novella #3
By Michelle Zink
Coming February 12, 2013

Maggie O’ Reilly has her hands full. It’s all she can do to hold down her job at small-town newspaper and pay the nursing home bills for her deteriorating father. But a lead on a story from Ivan Montgomery might be just the thing to win her the promotion -- and raise -- she needs to secure her father’s care.

Ivan Montgomery isn’t exactly Mr. Popular. As the son of Ambrose Montgomery, head of the Shadowguard, Ivan has a reputation for being surly and confrontational. But somehow Maggie’s spirit and vulnerability make him want to be a better man.

Too bad a future between them is impossible.

As an outsider, Maggie can never know that Shadowguard Security is a front for the Alliance, a group of angelic descendants who keep mankind balanced between the forces of light and dark. And that means she can never know who -- and what -- Ivan really is.

But as the pair come closer to solving the mystery of who is framing the Shadowguard for murder, their attraction becomes impossible to deny. When a confrontation with a deadly foe forces them to face their feelings -- and their passion-- they will have to answer the question; can true love survive the ultimate secret?

Interview with Michelle Zink:

1.  Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

A single mother of four, I spend most of my time writing, doing yoga, and hanging out with my teenagers. I haven't dated in five years, which probably explains my recent penchant for the adult romance genre. Lol!

2.   Where did you get your idea for the Shadowguard series and how many books are planned in the series?

The Shadowguard series is set in the same world as A TEMPTATION OF ANGELS, but rather than being YA and set in the Victorian era, the Shadowguard series features main characters in their twenties and is set modern day. There was so much to work with in the world I built for A TEMPTATION OF ANGELS. Wanting to explore it further - and from a different, more adult point of view -- felt natural. I have a three book arc and a ten book arc for the series. Which one I use depends on how the first three are received. So I hope your readers enjoy them!

3.   I know you write both YA and Adult books.  Which is your favorite genre to write, and which to you find most challenging?

I don't really have a favorite. YA has a special place in my heart and always will, probably because I feel like a perpetual teenager. But I'm really loving the challenge and freedom of writing for adults, and I definitely I want to do more of it.

4.   Which character in your books has been your favorite to write, and what character has been your most challenging?

That's a tough one! I love all my Shadowguard characters, but I probably have a soft spot for Maggie (in the upcoming Temptation's Fire). Her struggle to balance her career with love and the demands of caring for a parent whose health is deteriorating feel very real to me. As for the guys, Rowen Black is the one who most makes my heart go "boom-boom". What can I say? I have a weakness for bad boys. ;)

 5.   What books have influenced your life most?

So many! As an adult, Janet Fitch's work (White Oleander and Paint It Black) left me feeling changed. I also love Margaret Atwood's work (especially Oryx and Crake and The Year of the Flood) because it makes me look at our world and its struggles in a new light. My favorite guilty pleasures are undoubtedly the Black Dagger Brotherhood series by J.R. Ward and the Fever series by Karen Marie Moning. Both have such great world-building, wonderful writing, and of course, plenty of heat!

 6.   Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?

I’ve been writing for as long as I can remember, but I was working as a Director of Sales and Marketing for a technology consulting firm until 2001 when I realized how unhappy I was with my lifestyle. I moved my whole family 3,000 miles to a tiny, rural town where the cost of living was cheap enough for me to try something different. It took awhile to find my way back to writing, but when I did, I did it with a vengeance, and I wrote five books in two-and-a-half years until Prophecy of the Sisters sold to Little Brown in 2007.

 7.  Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?

Just a big "thank you" for supporting me. I'm pretty sure I have the best readersEVER. They're incredibly loyal, happy to read my YA stuff while also being open to the new things I write like the Shadowguard series. Writing is such a huge part of who I am. Sometimes I think it literally keeps me sane. Getting to do it every day is a gift I woudn't have without the loyalty of my readers - and wonderful bloggers who help spread the word.

Temptation's Heat
Shadowguard Novella #1
by Michelle Zink
Published December 4, 2012 by Swoon Romance

NY Times and USA Today best-selling author of LOSING IT, Cora Carmack says,"Before reading TEMPTATION'S HEAT, I wouldn't have thought it possible to create a paranormal romance with great characterization, interesting relationships, and strong world-building in only seventy pages. I'm happy to say Michelle Zink definitely proved me wrong! Scarlet was the ultimate kick-ass heroine. Rowen Black was nothing short of sinful, and I am so relieved that the Shadowguard world is continuing as a series. To put it simply: Worth. Every. Penny."

When Rowen Black is assigned to the elite unit of angelic assassins known as the Shadowguard, he thinks his biggest challenge will be overcoming his less-than-stellar reputation. But that’s before he meets his match in Scarlet Montgomery.

Beautiful, strong, and with a temper to match Rowen’s own, Scarlet is focused on the Shadowguard and her possible future as its leader. She’s become an expert at keeping her personal life separate from the Guard, all too aware that as the boss’s daughter, fellow warriors see her not as someone to be respected, but as someone to be protected.

Avoiding entanglements gets a lot harder when Rowen saunters into the room. Rowen puts the bad in "bad boy." Their connection is hot, visceral, and instantaneous.

When the pair are assigned to a joint investigation, they come face-to-face with their undeniable attraction, forcing Scarlet to consider that the connection is not only physical, but a destiny written in the halls of time.

Temptation's Kiss
Shadowguard Novella #2
by Michelle Zink
Published December 4, 2012 by Swoon Romance

Lily Montgomery is perfectly happy taking care of everyone else. That is, until her friendship with Shadowguard warrior, Kane Dawson, begins to blossom into something more.

But Lily has a secret. One that will keep her from ever making her feelings known to Kane.
One of the Shadowguard’s fiercest warriors, Kane has a soft spot for Lily. A long-standing member of the Shadowguard, he can’t figure out when his feelings for Ambrose Montgomery’s youngest daughter morphed from brotherly affection into desire and an unfamiliar longing that feels a lot like love.

Kane holds himself in check knowing that Lily deserves better. A man in a suit, dinner at six every night, rosy-cheeked children who won’t have to worry that their father might be killed by one of the Legion’s wraiths.

But when the pair are thrown together by a set of circumstances beyond their control, they are forced to confront their growing passion and decide if love is worth the risk of baring it all.
