Second Rate Chances
by Holly Stephens
Publication Date:  January 11, 2013

Sam wakes up in the hospital expecting to find his girlfriend by his bedside. Instead, he finds a bleached-blond diva, claiming to be his fiancĂ©e, hovering over him. When he learns that he's just woken up from a coma and has lost the last three years of his life, any semblance of stability he thought he had falls down around him. All he wants – all he needs – is Lil.

After countless visits with her shrink and too many sleepless nights waiting for the one man she loves to walk back through the door, Lil wants nothing more than to separate herself from the life she used to have. But the moment Sam smiles at her, Lil knows it's going to take more than self-restraint to stay away.

Second-Rate Chances is about a young man fighting to regain his memory, and the one thing in his life that felt real. A modern-day Samson and Delilah, it's a look at what it means to love and be loved, and to fight though it seems hopeless.

Character Interview With Ellie

Hi Ellie.  Thanks so much for being here today.  Can you tell me something about yourself that we don’t learn from the book? I’m an ex dancer. No, not the kind Abe might lead you to believe but a trained ballet dancer. I took lessons all my life but an injury kept me from pursuing it as a career. Sometimes I think I’d like to open a studio here for the young girls and maybe one day I will.

What is your author like? Holly? Awesome. I think she gave me some of the best lines in the book.

How would you describe yourself? Playful, outgoing, loyal to my friends- even the ones I love to hate.

How do you think your friends would describe you? The same, although Abe might not call me loyal. He’d probably call me skanky and that’s fine. We all have our faults. His just happens to be he has no taste. They may say I’m fierce and I guess to a point I am. I don’t take bullshit from anyone. I think you read that LOL.

What is your most prized possession? My first pair of ballet slippers. There is a shadow box that I keep in Zach and I’s bedroom.

What are your 3 greatest strengths? If I say I’m going to do it, I do it. I’ll call you out on something in a heartbeat. I’m patient.

What are your 3 greatest weaknesses? I’ll call you out on something in a heartbeat, LOL. Since I don’t have to keep my body a certain size for dancing, junk food is my enemy. Sometimes I let things get to me when I know they shouldn’t.

If you had a day to do anything you wanted, what would you do? Go back to before I had my injury. I’d love to dance in New York, on the big stage. The lights, the music. It’s my element. I’m most at home when I have a pair of ballet flats on my feet.

Thanks again for stopping by Ellie.  It was really great talking to you.

About Holly:  People have often told me that I live in a fantasy world. Little did they know, I was building an empire of stories in my head to one day share.

I'm a mother first, a wife second, and a writer third. I'm so thankful to have been given this chance to get my stories out of my head and onto paper.

When I'm not writing, I sell plumbing (no I'm not kidding) and read romances that leave my heart a flutter. I know a ridiculous amount of pop culture information and can quote certain movies word for word. Music drives me to write and to also sing off key.

    1. I love character interviews. This one was kind of hard since, I didn't get an ARC of the book and had to come up with generic questions, but when I got the answers back, I knew I had to read it. I bought it after it released.
