Socialite Pippa Rowantree has always provided excellent fodder for the UK’s gossip rags. After another unfortunate scandal sends the gossips into a feeding frenzy, her shamed family retaliates by forcing her into hiding at old family friend Marco Capello’s lush Caribbean estate—literally the last place on earth she wants to be.

As far as Marco’s concerned, wild child Pippa has ruined his life once and he’ll be damned if he lets her do it again. But it’s hard to reconcile the adolescent he knew with the mature, beautiful woman who stands before him. Soon he’s questioning if everything the media is claiming about Pippa is the truth or if he should trust his heart.

Michelle Smart author of Tempted by Trouble

Hi Michelle, it is great to have you visiting today.
My pleasure – thanks for having me!

To begin with, can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
I’m a thirty something bookworm with two mischievous boys and a very tolerant husband.

Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?
Not really – it’s just always been a part of me. From babyhood I’ve always surrounded myself with books, and writing, for me, is just an extension of that.

Where did you get your idea for Tempted by Trouble?
From the tabloids and gossip magazines. I kept reading stories and seeing pictures of young, female celebrities behaving outrageously – generally through alcohol and without any knickers on – and I kept thinking about them in five, ten years’ time. Would they have changed? Would they have settled down? Would their past antics return to haunt them?

Can you tell us a little bit about Pippa and Marco?
Pippa comes from a genteel family that are minor members of the British Royal family. As an adolescent, she went completely off the rails and, being in the public eye, her wild escapades were played out to the British public. She’s always hero-worshipped Marco, who is her stepmother’s nephew.
Marco is solid, ethical and hardworking. When Pippa was eighteen, her antics almost destroyed him on a personal and professional level. He’s spent the past seven years building a multi-billion dollar company from scratch and nursing a very big grudge against her.

Is the story based on your own experience and/or people you know, or is it purely fictional?
It is pure fiction.

What is your favorite scene or quote from Tempted by Trouble?
This is without doubt my favourite quote:

“I did not ‘screw you,’ ” he refuted grimly. “We made love. There is a difference.”
She shrugged. “You say to-may-to, I say to-mah-to. It’s the same difference.”

Can you tell us three things about yourself that people would be surprised to know?
1)      I got married when I was 21 and we’re still together.
2)      I hate peaches.
3)      I think Stephen King is a genius (actually, that might not be a surprise – I’ll say that to anyone who’ll listen).

What are your current projects?
I’m working on revisions for my second Harlequin Presents – my debut Presents releases on July 23rd.

If you had to sum up Tempted by Trouble in a tweet, what would it say?
I think I’d go for the tagline on the cover: ‘Keep your enemies close…’

This or That:

E-books or print copies?
Print copies.

Facebook or Twitter?
Twitter

Coffee, tea, or Coke?
I love coffee but I drink gallons of tea. Coke is only nice when diluted by vodka.

Dark chocolate or milk chocolate?
Milk chocolate.

Theatre or DVD?
Can I choose both?

Beach or Mountains?
Beach. Beach. Beach… I think I need a holiday.

Thanks so much for stopping by today Michelle.  It was great talking to you!

My Review:  Twenty-five year old Pippa Rowantree finds her self in a rather precarious situation, one which has landed her back in the presence of Marco Capello, her stepmother's nephew, the guy she had a crush on since she was 8 years old.......the guy who unintentionally broke her heart.  Pippa didn't ask to be in the spotlight, nevertheless because of her family's status, she is.  Pippa was a bit of a "wild child" after turning 18, which made her a hot commodity in the eyes of the media, and the paparazzi just love a good scandal.  Pippa has never been able to live down the things she did when she was 18, in the eyes of the public, in the eyes of her father, and even worse, in the eyes of Marco Capello.  She never realized just how much he despised her until she arrived at his home in the Caribbean, and now despite her battered and bruised state, he tells her just what he thinks.  It isn't until he sees the bruises that he even begins to regret the things he said, yet he still can't bring himself to forgive her.  He hates himself even worse for desiring her the way he does.  Being 10 years older than her doesn't make near as much difference now that she is 25, as it did when she was younger.

Pippa has been on her own for 5 years, supporting herself, getting her life together, but when an incident at work lands her in jail, she finds herself and her efforts seem meaningless - presumed guilty until proven innocent, all because of her past, even though she has obviously been wronged.  What no one seems to notice is the broken little girl that is still  grieving the tragic loss of her mother so many years ago, something has both shaped her and devastated her, but will Marco be able to put aside his anger and see who Pippa has become, and if he does, will Pippa be able to let him in after all the pain she's been through?

I really enjoyed Tempted by Trouble.  The setting is beautiful and the story itself was both interesting and entertaining.  I felt really bad for Pippa.  She was so beautiful and had been so wounded, especially by those who were supposed to be closest to her.  Did she mess up?  Yes, she most certainly did.  Unfortunately, no one would look past her mistakes into the person she had become, and I really felt bad for her.  Marco is a total hottie.  He was kind of a jerk in the beginning, but I could understand where he was coming from, and he did redeem himself in my eyes as the story progressed, despite his moments of dickdom, and really came through for Pippa.  The chemistry between Pippa and Marco is electric, and the sexual tension between them is intense.  I enjoyed watching these two characters progress through their hurts, loss, anger, and fear, even in the face of tragedy, finding out what love really is in the process.  If you are a contemporary romance fan, then Tempted by Trouble is something you might want to check out.

About the author:
Michelle's love affair with books began as a baby when, according to her mum, she would throw her teddies out of the cot and cuddle with books instead.  This love of all things wordy has never left her. A voracious reader, her tastes cross all genres.  Her first experience with romance was as a child devouring copious amount of fairy tales.  As her reading tastes evolved, she discovered something special--a book has the capacity to make her heart beat as if falling in love the first time.
When not reading or pretending to do the housework, Michelle loves nothing more than creating worlds of her own featuring handsome heroes and the sparkly, feisty women who refuse to take crap from them. She hopes her books can make her readers’ hearts beat a little faster, too.

Aww that's so adorable how you were married at 21 and you're still together! It's really inspiring to see those kinds of stories in real life :) EEK peaches make me swell up in the springtime and ONLY the springtime. It's really odd.
