Until I Break
by M. Leighton
Coming May 14, 2013

"I’m intrigued. Tempted beyond what I’ve ever been before. To know her, to open her up. To break her." In love, sometimes what you fear most is exactly what you need.

Laura Drake is an author.  She writes bestselling paranormal romances that continue to top the charts.  She is sharp.  She is confident.  She is in control.  And she doesn’t exist.

Samantha Jansen is the woman behind the wig, the woman most of the world doesn't know exists.  She is shy.  She is insecure.  She is nothing like her main character or her alter ego.  She is scarred—deeply scarred—by a past she can’t let go of and a present she can’t make peace with.  Samantha’s dreams are consumed by one man, the broken hero from her books.  Mason Strait is both her wildest fantasy and her most terrifying nightmare.

When Samantha meets Alec Brand, a corporate consultant, it is as though Mason has come to life.  Alec is handsome to a fault, as elegant as he is arrogant, and more intense than any man has a right to be.

Samantha is soon sucked into a world that mirrors the fiction she writes.  Just like her main character, Daire Kirby, Samantha finds herself unable to resist the forbidden lure of Alec.  And just like Daire, she also finds that she is faced with taking a chance on a man who could either set her free or destroy her.  The scale tilts toward destruction when Samantha finds out that Alec is as much a work of fiction as Mason.  And he has scars of his own, scars that could ruin them both.

My Thoughts:  Oh my gawd!!!!!!  Until I Break has blown my mind, blown by socks off, and everything in between, multiple times.  I love M. Leighton and her books, and she has written some really hot books, but let me tell you, Until I Break is hot, Hot, HOT!!!  I absolutely loved it.

Samantha Jansen has a horrid and broken past that has left her a very insecure person, emotionally, socially, sexually.  Samantha Jansen is also a writer.  Her "alter ego" or pen name, is Laura Drake, who writes some of the sexiest, hottest, paranormal romance novels around.  She carefully keeps her true identity hidden from the public, taking every measure she can to insure that no one puts two and two together.  It is at one of her "book signings" that she meets Alec Brand.  When she looks into those green eyes, she knows she has found her real life Mason, the dream guy from her books, and her dream guy aims to meet her.  Dream guy's name is Alec Brand, and he is all kinds of hot and sexy.  When she meets him again as Samantha Jansen, she knows she is done for.  The man is a total sexsicle.  When Alec meets Samantha Jansen, desires that he has suppressed rise up once again.....dark desires.  What he offers her is almost more than she can fathom.  He makes it clear what he is willing and able to do, what his intentions are, and what she can expect from him.

“I’m not the warm and fuzzy type, Samantha.  It’s not my intention to make you feel love.  I don’t have that kind of emotion in me.  But there are other things I can give you, things I can make you feel.  Really feel.”  His eyes are hooded as he looks down at me and takes one more step forward.  This time, I don’t back up.  “Excitement,” he says, reaching up to wind one long, red curl around his finger.  When his eyes meet mine, I feel like he’s doing the same thing to me—winding me around his finger.  “Anticipation.  Desire.  Warmth.  I can make you feel very, very warm.”
As though his words alone can evoke the sensation, I feel hot blood rush to the surface of my skin and pool in the lowest part of my belly.
“You might even feel a little fear,” he continues softly.  “But even that can be intoxicating in its own way.”

Samantha knows there is no way she is going to be able to say no to this man, but she also knows she is broken, very broken, she thinks maybe beyond repair.  What she doesn't know is that Alec is also just as broken.  He has secrets even darker than her own.  Will she be able to take what he offers?  Will he be able to deliver?  Will they save each other or destroy each other in the process?

Until I Break is unlike anything I have read by M. Leighton thus far.  I was totally and completely caught up in the lives of Samantha and Alec from page one, totally and completely sucked into their world.  M. Leighton took me on a thrilling and dark ride with these characters to places I never imagined.  The story is dark, suspenseful, thrilling, sexy, scary, and absolutely amazing.  Alec, OMG, I loved him, I was a little scared of him, and I wanted to devour him almost as much as Samantha did.  He is dominant, very dominant, and hot as hell.  I loved Samantha's character also and was rooting her on the whole way through the book.  She amazed me as to where she started, where she ended up, and the things she was willing to do in the process in order to get there.  Chemistry, let me tell you, it is intense and on a level all its own...fanning my face here.  I really liked Sam's sister Chris to, and would love to see her get a novel, hint, hint.  I can't recommend this book enough to you.  I loved it.  It is very sexually explicit, so be forewarned, and the story itself is fantastic.  Until I Break is like riding a roller coaster in complete darkness, taking you places that are thrilling, scary, intense, and extremely exciting.  You don't know which way you are going to turn or when there will be a sudden drop, you just have to trust the car to stay on the tracks, hang on, and enjoy the ride.  The ending is wonderful, especially the epilogues.  It leaves you feeling completed satiated and content with where the story went, giving you some memories you will never forget about the journey you went on to get there.

I get the feeling that a man like this could be the end of me, the end of my life as I’ve known it.  I write about star-crossed love every day, about people who need so deeply and feel so passionately that their world caves in around them. I’d be crazy to risk something like that. But I’d also be crazy not to.  As surely as I’m sitting here, I know I would forever regret it if I didn’t say yes to this man. At least once.

As he draws closer, I can see that his eyes are obscured as he squints into the sun.  But, I don't need to see them to recognize the rider.  I felt the tug of the string the instant I looked up.  It's Alec.  And he's coming straight for us.  "Holy effin' shit," Chris breathes beside me.  "This is like one of those Old Spice commercials."

New York Times and USA Today bestselling Author, M. Leighton, is a native of Ohio. She relocated to the warmer climates of the South, where she can be near the water all summer and miss the snow all winter. Possessed of an overactive imagination from early in her childhood, Michelle finally found an acceptable outlet for her fantastical visions: literary fiction. Having written over a dozen novels, these days Michelle enjoys letting her mind wander to more romantic settings with sexy Southern guys, much like the one she married and the ones you'll find in her latest books. When her thoughts aren't roaming in that direction, she'll be riding horses, swimming in ponds and experiencing life on a ranch, all without leaving the cozy comfort of her office.

About Michelle:  I love coffee and chocolate, even more so when they are combined.  I'm convinced that one day they could be the basis for world peace.  I also love the color red and am seriously considering dying my hair.
