The Liberator (Dante Walker #2)
by Victoria Scott
Release Date: August 27, 2013
From Entangled Teen

Summary from Goodreads:
Bad boy, meet bad girl.

Dante has a shiny new cuff wrapped around his ankle, and he doesn't like that mess one bit. His new accessory comes straight from Big Guy himself and marks the former demon as a liberator. Despite his gritty past and bad boy ways, Dante Walker has been granted a second chance.

When Dante is given his first mission as a liberator to save the soul of seventeen-year-old Aspen, he knows he’s got this. But Aspen reminds him of the rebellious life he used to live and is making it difficult to resist sinful temptations. Though Dante is committed to living clean for his girlfriend Charlie, this dude’s been a playboy for far too long…and old demons die hard.

With Charlie becoming the girl she was never able to be pre-makeover and Aspen showing him how delicious it feels to embrace his inner beast, Dante will have to go somewhere he never thought he’d return to in order to accomplish the impossible: save the girl he’s been assigned to, and keep the girl he loves.

My Thoughts:  I fell in love with Dante Walker in The Collector and I have been anxiously awaiting to see 'sup with Dante in The Liberator.  Dante is now no longer working for the "bad guy," who he and Max have now dubbed "Lucille."  Instead, he is a Liberator, part of the good team, though he is having a hard time believing or accepting this fact.  The only good thing he sees in himself or about himself is Charlie, his girlfriend, who just so happens to play a key part in the future of humankind.  Dante is cocky, smokin hot, a total badass, snarky, and as bad as bad boys get.  Even though he is a Liberator, deep down, he really doesn't feel like there is anything good in him.  He hasn't turned from his bad habits, and isn't sure he wants to, but he knows he wants Charlie, and that's pretty good motivation.  Charlie is great, she is such a sweetheart, honest, beautiful inside and out, but she has a little spunk going on there to, which we get to see in The Liberator.  Charlie sees past Dante's facade into the person that she knows he really is inside, and she knows that underneath it all, he is good.  The Liberator picks up not too longer after The Collector ends.  Dante receives his first assignment, to liberate a 17-year-old girl whose name is Aspen, and Aspen is pretty badass herself.  She lives in Denver, which requires Dante to be really far away from Charlie, something Dante is sure if he is ready or willing to do.  When he is reminded that the ultimatum would be to lose his cuff, thus ceasing to exist, he decides he better man-up and do this, despite his reservations about leaving Charlie.

I have to be honest here.  When I read this sentence in the synopsis, "Aspen reminds him of the rebellious life he used to live and is making it difficult to resist sinful temptations. Though Dante is committed to living clean for his girlfriend Charlie, this dude’s been a playboy for far too long…and old demons die hard," I was really nervous about what was going to happen.  I was going to be so pissed at Dante if he cheated on Charlie, and I am happy to say that my boy didn't even think about it.  I so didn't want to read another love triangle book, and Dante loves Aspen, but like a sister, which just made this book so much better.  Now he still is bad and gets into trouble, and he and Charlie have to work though some things, but they are solid.  Dante also does so much maturing in this book, which is something that I think "The Big Guy," had planned all along to prepare him for what he is destined to be and do.  I loved watching his character grow in this novel, and Charlie's also does some growing herself, and I enjoyed seeing the fierceness of her passion for those she loves come out in this book.  I liked Aspen a lot to.  She pretty much does what she wants and doesn't take crap from anybody, but she has had a hard past to.  She and Dante are "kindred spirits," and she reminds him so much of himself. We get to see some of the characters we are familiar with from The Collector - Max, Val, Annabelle, and others.  There is also an appearance by someone that was a surprise, and a very good one.

There is plenty of kick-ass action in this book, which is classic for Dante, but there is also a lot of inner searching of sorts, where Dante is coming to terms with himself, who he is, the depth of how he feels about Charlie, how he feels about Aspen, and his choices both past, present, and future.  For Dante, he would probably better describe it as feeling like he was being a pussy.  There are some new bad guys that are introduced into the story, and some of the old ones are back for seconds to.  There ares also a few really hot romance scenes between Dante and Charlie, and I love that the entire book is told from Dante's point of view, which is very interesting and very entertaining.  We also get to see a couple of budding romances between some of the other characters, and I can't wait to see where that goes.  I also really like Victoria's Scott's take on the whole paranormal angel/demon thing.  It is quite unique and very creative, and I really haven't read anything from this particular angle before.  If you loved The Collector, you will definitely love The Liberator.  If you haven't read them, you will want...you will need to meet Dante Walker, for sure.  This is a great second installment in this action-packed series, and it is obvious that Victoria Scott has a lot more planned for Dante, Charlie, and the rest of the crew before this series ends.  I can't wait to see where she takes things from here.

A few of my favorite quotes:
Real men don't cross their legs.  In an emergency situation, like if you need to adjust your junk, a dude can place ankle to knee.  But that's it.  There shouldn't be any danglage.  I shouldn't see one leg lying limply over the other, and I definitely - definitely - shouldn't see you bounce your dangling foot.

A girl struts by slowly, drinking in my appearance...I know, fancy face.  I'm effin' hot.  But, you're blocking my view.  I raise a hand and flick my wrist dismissing Ogling Girl.  She rolls her eyes and clicks away in Payless Heels.

"My name is Dante Walker, and I do not carry Discover cards.  Discover is for senior citizens and budgeters."  I say the last word with a shiver.

"I want to protect this girl from all the terrible things in the world, but at the same time, I want to do all kinds of terrible things to her."

"You were breathtaking Charlie. You are stunning now, you know that. But you were stunning before too. Not everybody could see it, but sometimes that can make a girl so much more appealing. The beauty who doesn't know she's beautiful. The girl everyone seems to ignore, but to the right person she's like this...like this beam of light. You were a beam of light Charlie," I say. "I'm just sorry it too me so long to see it."

The Collector (Dante Walker #1)
From Entangled Teen
Release Date: April 2nd, 2013
Paperback/e-book
400 pages

Dante Walker is flippin’ awesome, and he knows it. His good looks, killer charm, and stellar confidence has made him one of hell’s best—a soul collector. His job is simple, weed through humanity and label those round rears with a big, red good or bad stamp. Old Saint Nick gets the good guys, and he gets the fun ones. Bag-and-tag.

Sealing souls is nothing personal. Dante’s an equal opportunity collector and doesn’t want it any other way. But he’ll have to adjust, because Boss Man has given him a new assignment:  Collect Charlie Cooper’s soul within 10 days.

Dante doesn’t know why Boss Man wants Charlie, nor does he care. This assignment means only one thing to him, and that’s a permanent ticket out of hell. But after Dante meets the quirky, Nerd Alert chick he’s come to collect—he realizes this assignment will test his abilities as a collector, and uncover emotions deeply buried.
