Sometimes It Lasts (Sea Breeze #5)

Cage York has to choose between a love of the game and a love of the girl in this sultry Sea Breeze novel from New York Times bestselling author Abbi Glines.

After waiting for his big break, bad boy Cage York is finally called up to prove his worth in the college baseball arena. But when Cage’s girlfriend, Eva, mourns the sudden loss of her father, it’s not Cage’s comforting arms she runs to, but those of her former fiancĂ©’s twin brother, Jeremy.

Torn between his baseball dream and the girl of his dreams, Cage must prove he’s worthy of Eva’s love, or risk losing her to Jeremy forever.

My Thoughts:  I absolutely could not wait to get my hands on this book.  Cage and Eva are my favorite Sea Breeze couple and I was ecstatic and all fangirling when I found out we were going to get another book with Cage in it.  OMG  - did Abbi Glines ever deliver big time with Sometimes it Lasts.  I don't know where to begin.  I knew going into this book it wasn't going to be an easy read from the synopsis, but I did not know it was going to RIP my poor little emotional heart out.......get ready for some tissues girls, because you are going to need them, and whatever else brings you comfort....then hold on and get ready for the ride. I kid you not, I swooned - I mean who wouldn't over Cage - I smiled as we got to see all the rest of the Sea Breeze gang that we have come to know and love, I got all hot and bothered when Cage talked dirty to Eva and did other things, then I cried and was a complete wreck for a while, both for Cage and for Eva.  Next, I put on my cheerleader cap and was mentally and emotionally shaking my pompoms for Team Cage, then got all hot and bothered with Cage's dirty talk and one exceptionally hot scene, and then finally sighed, relaxed, and and smiled, completely satiated about 3:00 a.m. when I finished the book - whew (I am pausing to breathe now).

Seriously, Cage York stole my heart in While it Lasts, and he sealed it and took away the key, completely branding it as his in Sometimes it Lasts.  Warning - Do not do try at home:  I must make a little confession to you all.  In the middle of my distress, when I couldn't bear it anymore, fearing I might not live until I got to the ending and  in a moment of complete weakness, I had to go to the back of the book to see what happens.  I am such a wuss.  Now for me, that is okay, because I still enjoyed the book just as much.  In fact, I'll probably end up reading it again - maybe 2 or 3 times, and will still love it as much as I did the first time.  I mean, I've read the Vincent Boys and Vincent Brothers like four times already.  So I want to bring you words of comfort and encouragement, as I put my cheerleader cap on for all of you who haven't read it yet....I am shaking my pompoms now and cheering......You will can do it.......just hold on.......the ending is worth the wait, it's just getting through the in between that is the difficult part, but it hurts so good.  I love this book, and the entire Sea Breeze series.  I can't wait for Misbehaving (Sea Breeze #6), which is Jason Stone's story, to come out in December.  I really hope Dewayne gets a story to, and  I would love Preston and Amanda to get a second book.  Okay, time to stop now.  If you haven't read While it Lasts and Sometimes it Lasts, trust me, you'll want to.

Teaser Time

“What are you doing to her, man? Damn she’s all kinds of red,” Preston said from across the table. Cage’s head snapped in Preston’s direction and I was torn between humiliation at the fact that everyone knew what was going on now and fear that Cage was going to hurt him. “I don’t know what the hell you’re talking about but I know you’re not embarrassing my girl because if you are I’m gonna kick your ass.” Preston only chuckled but I could see the panicked look in Amanda’s eyes. “Okay you two. That’s enough. Preston shut up and Cage calm down. Damn psychos,” Marcus said from the head of the table.                           .........Eva Brooks

Abbi Glines was born in Birmingham, Alabama. She grew up in the small town of Sumiton, Alabama where she left the summer she turned eighteen. She didn’t get far… she chased her high school sweetheart down to the coast and she’s been there ever since. Abbi now lives in the quaint southern town of Fairhope, Alabama with her three children and husband Keith (the high school sweetheart she chased after). Her life is never dull and Keith always makes sure there is another “experience” for them to explore.Books published by Abbi include The Vincent Boys and the USA TODAY bestseller The Vincent Brothers, Breathe, Because of Low, the USA TODAY bestsellers While It Lasts and Just For Now, The Existence Trilogy that includes the USA Today Bestseller Ceaseless, and The New York Times bestseller and Wall Street Journal bestseller Fallen Too Far. Currently she is working on Never Too Far, the sequel to Fallen too Far. When Abbi isn’t locked away in her office typing away she is hauling her kids to and from their many social activities. You could say her second job is the Glines Kids personal chauffeur. It’s a rather illustrious job.

  1. I actually didn't care for the one book I read by her. Well, I liked it okay, but I didn't love it. I do have Breathe and figured I'd give it a shot since I happen to have it and I know it's not fair to judge an author by just one book. It sounds like I really DO need to give her another chance!

    1. You might like Breathe better. It is the cleaner of her books in that series. The Existence Series is something you might enjoy also.

  2. I do like Abbi's writing but for whatever reason I tend to start one of her series and then never make it past that first initial read even though I enjoyed it. I definitely need to get caught up on all her series because I really am a fan of her work. I am so glad you LOVED this Ellen!

  3. Aw, I love your review, Ellen. And thanks for sharing the teasers!

  4. I love those images and teasers! This book sounds heart-breaking.. Abbi Glines is hit or miss for me but I'm keen to read this one.

A wonderful review Ellen! I'm so curious to know whether Cage & Eva get their HEA.

  5. Sounds like another good one for the series, and I do love those teaser! Great review.

  6. Okay Ellen, I had originally decided not to buy Sometimes It Lasts because of the price. Yes, I love Abbi Glines but I don't want to pay as much for a print book as an ebook. That being said. After your teasers and photos, I may have to break down and purchase this one!

    1. It is really pricey. Maybe they will run a sale soon and you can get it then.

  7. I've only read one book from Abbi, Fallen Too Far, and I hated it. Still debating if I should give her other books a try as I've heard good things about her other series. I am intrigued by this one, based on your review. I'll put it on the maybe pile, lol. Great review!

    1. I still have to read the Fallen Too Far series. I bought the books, but I haven't had time to read them yet.

  8. GASP! You looked at the ending?! LOL I'm glad you loved this book. You know I love Abbi's books. They're all favorites of mine. I loved your teasers!

Thanks for your comments. I love hearing from you!
