"Book Boyfriend of the Week: What Kind is Yours?" Hemi from All the Pretty Lies by M. Leighton

TITLE: "Book Boyfriend of the Week: What kind is yours?"
This is a meme created by Reading and Things for bloggers to talk about their boyfriends and teases their readers with things they've said.
Want to participate?
All you have to do is:

1) Pick a book boyfriend, it can be from the book your currently reading or from one you've already read.
2) Write what kind of boyfriend he is, and if you want, say why you think that.
3) Pick a quote from his book, it could be long or short, that proves he is the kind of boyfriend you said he is
4) Make sure the quote, and the explanation, DO NOT give away anything from the book (we want all of the twists and plot surprises to remain surprises)
5) Share it! Add you name and link to the Linky below.

This week my book boyfriend is Hemi from All the Pretty Lies by M. Leighton. To quote Andrea from Make My Day Books, "There's hot and then there's Hemi."  That pretty much says it all.

ALL THE PRETTY LIES

About:
All the Pretty Lies
“Live, no regrets”
Her…
Sloane Locke has led a sheltered life.  However, with a history like hers, she can understand why
her brothers and her father want so much to protect her.  She has gone along with it for twenty
long years, but those days are over.  For the girl who never makes promises, Sloane has made a
pact with herself that things will change on her twenty-first birthday.  So when the clock
strikes midnight, Sloane strikes out to spread her wings and break a few rules.
Him…
In addition to inking skin, Hemi Spencer possesses many talents. Controlling himself has never
been one of them.  It’s never had to be.  He’s lived a life of indulgence for as long as he can remember.  Right up until tragedy struck.  Now, he’s nothing but controlled. He’s a man on a mission, one who will let nothing and no one stand in his way.
Them…
Nothing in their lives could’ve prepared Sloane and Hemi for what they’d find in each other— distraction and obsession, love and possession.  But the one thing they can’t find is a future.  Neither one has been totally honest.  And they’ll soon learn that the devil is in the details.  In the details and in the lies. How far will two people go to live in the now when the now
is all they’ve got?

"......I’ve always preferred experienced women. The wilder the better. I’ve never taken a girl’s virginity, nor do I want to. I want a woman who knows what she wants and how to get it, and one who knows where the door is before I get out of the bathroom."

‘But a girl like her deserves nice, too. And naughty’s all I’ve got. It’s all I’m interested in. Especially now. Which means I need to stay away from her. I need to deny myself the pleasure of her. And I’m not used to denying myself anything that I want. Including women.
Sloane might have to be the first.
And I like it even less than I thought I would.’

“I may not be able to give you breakfasts and promises but I can give you pleasure like you’ve never even dreamed of. That will have to be enough”

"It’s addictive, having something that no one else has touched. It made me want more. I didn’t just want to have you. I wanted to possess you. I wanted to make you mine, to mark you so deeply that you could never be anyone else’s. I want you, Sloane...”

I know I’ll hate myself for this tomorrow, but I have to have a taste of you, Sloane. I can’t deny myself for one minute. Let me show you what I was thinking when I saw you lying up there. Let me show you what it feels like when a man stops fighting.”

I feel as though there’s a tug of war going on. Between us as well as within us. I’m the sheltered girl trying to break free and really live for the first time in her life. I’m striving to put fear and reservation and hesitation aside in favor of seizing the moment.

But not Hemi.

I get the feeling that he’s lived that way for a long time, that he seized all of life’s moments until something happened to make him stop. Stop and take notice. And slow down. And distance himself.

"With every butterfly I created, I'd get closer and closer to these," he says, gently cupping my breasts, "and I'd think to myself that I couldn't do it one more time. Not one more, or I'd explode."

I want to be with her, I want to watch her eyes open first thing in the morning, I don't want just to have her, I want to possess her, I want to make her mine, to mark her so deeply that she could never be anyone else's.

"You are my hope. You are the promise of my future. Without you, I have only regret. Nothing good. Or colorful. Or beautiful. Just death and sadness. You brought me to life, Sloane, and I don't ever want to be apart from you."
