Review: True For You (Boys of the South #3) by Marquita Valentine

A Boys of the South Companion Standalone Novel
By New York Times Bestselling Author Marquita Valentine
TRUE FOR YOU (Boys of the South, #3)
Contemporary New Adult
Published 11/29/13
For me, failure has never been an option, not with Everett Morgan controlling my entire career. But when my efforts to win back the girl who got away end up with me helping my rival, I concede defeat—and sneak away to a private island off the coast of South Carolina to lick my wounds.
Only I wasn’t counting on the seamstress for the band driving the getaway car. Or waking up the next day, with Bliss in my bed and a ring on her finger…and absolutely no memory of the wedding.
Bliss terrifies me while giving me hope that I can be more, that I can be this guy no one else can see but her. But I’m not sure who I want to be…except free.

I may not have finished high school, but I graduated with honors from the school of hard knocks. Four years ago, after barely surviving the second most terrifying ordeal of my life, I ran away from my foster parents and never looked back.
With one reckless decision, I wind up married to Jaxon Hunter, country music’s biggest bad boy. Only to me, he’s Jackson Morgan, equal parts sweet and selfish, thoughtful and prideful…arrogant and humble. And try as I might not to, I’m falling in love with him.
Only a future with Jackson can’t happen without reconciling with his past. But I’m not sure if I can endure the drama, the secrets… or competing with the only woman Jackson has ever loved.

My Thoughts:  True For You is Jackson and Bliss' story.  Picking up after the events that occurred in Only For You.  Jackson wakes up to find himself married to Bliss, something he isn't happy about, but then again, he isn't totally unhappy about it either.  Bliss, on the other hand, is just tired of her life, tired of not having anyone or any place to live.  She doesn't want to go back to living on the streets again, and like it or not, she knows she's falling in love with Jackson.  Whether Jackson wants to admit it or not, he is falling hard for Bliss also.  Finally free from his Dad, he is seeking to establish his on career, and after being a total jerk, he is trying to make things up to Bliss.  What he doesn't realize is that this new freedom may cost him everything.  He needs to decide what's important, what he's willing to do, and what he's willing to give up to find true happiness, especially when secrets from the past continue to pop up.

I felt so bad for Bliss in the story.  My heart just broke for her, for the way she was treated in the past, for the way she was treated now, and for the things she had to deal with, the heartbreak, the humiliation, the brokenness.  Yet despite it all, she had such a willingness to forgive.  I was glad that she did finally manage to stand up for herself though.  I really loved Jackson in Only For You, but he was kind of a jerk in the first part of True For You and I would have liked to have kicked him a few times.  Granted, he did have some major issues to work through.  I was happy when he finally figured out what he wanted, but even then could have shook him because he was kind of clueless about how what he was doing affected Bliss. Thankfully, he redeems himself by the ending of the book, which does ends wonderfully  by the way, and Marquita Valentine also provides us with a beautiful epilogue.  True to form, Marquita Valentine as provided another great installment in this entertaining series that is not only romantic, dramatic, and sexy, but also deals with some real social issues that are unfortunately too often overlooked.  True For You is a great companion novel in a really great series and is definitely worth checking out.
