A biker. A tattoo artist. A love to last a lifetime.

Maddox Cross has always had to be tough. When his father went to jail for murder, the teenager took care of his sister and mother. Now on his own and working security at a night club, Maddox wants to become a tattoo artist-a dream that comes closer to reality when he falls for the hottest, most tatted woman he's ever seen. She's wild and beautiful, and Maddox will do anything to be with her.

Bee Malone came to town to open up her new tattoo parlor, Masquerade. Since being kidnapped as a young girl, Bee has had trouble getting close to anyone. But when she meets Maddox, she sees that under his hard biker's body is the sensitive soul of an artist. What starts out as a sizzling one-night stand soon becomes so much more.

Bee wants Maddox to join her tattoo business, but letting him into her life means revealing all her most intimate secrets. And as the past begins to intertwine with her present, Bee fears their love may not be as permanent as their ink . . .

My Thoughts:  This series is my favorite so far from Nyrae Dawn.  I absolutely loved Charade, and Facade was great to, and I have to say that I adored Masquerade.  We get to know Maddox in Facade, and I was so anxious to read his story, and anxious to meet Bee and find out more about her and her story also.  She is very different type of character, and refreshingly so.  She and Maddox are so much a like and both have gone through so much, which has shaped them into the people they are.  They share a a hot night together, both understanding that that is all it is, neither planning to or wanting to see the other again, because they neither one do relationships.  Bee's a tattoo artist and has opened up her tattoo parlor "Masquerade" in town.  Maddox wants to be a tatto artist and is looking for somewhere to apprentice.  Needless to say, when he walks in to ask for a job, they are both shocked when they see each other.  Despite both of their reservations, Maddox ends up apprenticing with Bee.  The chemistry between these two is sizzling hot, and despite their determination to stay away from each other, they have a hard time succeeding.  They have a connection, whether they want to admit it or not, and gradually, the walls begin to come down, though both have many secrets they harbor deep inside.

The story is told from both Maddox and Bee's point of view, alternating chapters, which I really love in a book, because it enables you to get inside both of their heads and connect with them both.  Maddox is a total badass.  He's hard, broody, sexy as sin, tattooed, rides a bike, and can come across as a real jerk.  Bee is also hard, doesn't care what anyone thinks, she's tattooed, knows what she wants, and isn't afraid to put Maddox or anyone else in their place, anyone that is except her mom.  Maddox's past has left him scarred, as has Bee's, but Bee gets him, and he gets her, something that both frightens and intrigues them both.  She isn't like anyone Maddox has ever met before.

As for the secondary characters, it was so wonderful to see Laney and Adrian, as well as Cheyenne and Colt, and I love that Nyrae Dawn incorporates this into the series so that the connection you make with the characters continues from book to book.  I also really loved the way she wrote the book.  Neither Maddox or Bee actually say a lot, but there is so much inferred in the little they do say, and they understand what each other means in those few words that are actually spoken.  Nyrae Dawn writes both the spoken and unspoken words and does it in a way that just captures the character, the depth of what they are actually saying, and their essence so beautifully.

Masquerade is painfully beautiful and I could not put it down, and found myself totally engrossed in the novel from beginning to end.  I found Masquerade to be an outstanding installment in a must read series and I totally fell in love with Maddox and Bee and their story.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

“Careful, I might start thinking you’re nice.” He tilts his head down and the urge to reach up and kiss him teases me. “I could start thinking the same about you.”

“She makes me itch under my skin. It’s not annoying but it’s always there, and I don’t know what it means. It’s like I feel her, even when we’re not touching.”

“I want to give him something. Want him close to me in a way I’ve never wanted anyone close to me before. If I could, I’d cure that ache inside him.”

“It’s more personal being naked around Maddox than it’s ever been with anyone else. Like he sees more of me than I show.”

“The kiss is wild and passionate, and a mixture of so many emotions just like love is. It’s raw, all of us open for hurt when we chose to let love in. But open for beauty too.”

About the Author:  Writing has always been Nyrae Dawn’s passion. There have been times in her life where she wasn’t able to chase that dream the way she desired, but she always found her way back to telling stories.

One of her loves has always been writing about teens. There’s something so fresh and fun about the age that she loves exploring. Her husband says it’s because she doesn’t want to grow up. She doesn’t think that’s such a bad thing and luckily for her, he doesn’t either.

Nyrae gravitates toward character-driven stories. She loves going on emotional journeys with characters whether it be reading or writing. And yes, she’s a total romantic at heart and proud.

Nyrae resides in sunny Southern California with her husband (who still makes her swoon) and her two awesome kids.

When she’s not with her family, you can be pretty sure you’ll find her with a book in her hand or her laptop and an open document in front of her.

She writes for Entangled PublishingGrand Central Publishing and is self-published.
