He left to travel the world for fame and glory, but only after spurning Gabby Ward and crushing her young heart. Now Hunter Markham has come back home to the sand and salty breeze of the North Carolina Outer Banks so he can open up Last Call, a beach bar nestled among the dunes of the Atlantic.

Gabby Ward is not happy that Hunter has returned. Bitter over his rebuff years before, she’s content to stay far away from him and his dangerously charming ways.

Gabby’s well-schemed plans to ignore Hunter go up in flames when he presents an offer to her that she simply can’t refuse, throwing them together in a common quest to each reach their goals. Working together day in and day out proves to be problematic for Gabby, who soon realizes that the feelings she had for him are still very much alive. Hunter struggles to reach through to Gabby’s cold heart, all while starting a new career away from his life as a top ranked, professional surfer.

What starts out as a mutual business arrangement soon turns into a passion that neither of them can continue to deny.

Hard choices lay ahead for both of them when Hunter is offered a once in a lifetime opportunity to return to the pro surfing tour.

Choices that could destroy what they have built or take them further than they ever had dared to hope.

About the Author
USA Today Best-Selling author, Sawyer Bennett, is a snarky southern woman and reformed trial lawyer who decided to finally start putting on paper all of the stories that were floating in her head. She is married to a mobster (well, a market researcher) and they have two big, furry dogs who hog the bed. Sawyer would like to report she doesn’t have many weaknesses but can be bribed with a nominal amount of milk chocolate.

My Thoughts:  I am a big fan of Sawyer Bennett and have loved her Off Series, so when I found out she was writing a new series, I couldn't wait to get my hands on it.  On the Rocks is the story of Hunter Markham and Gabby Ward.  Gabby and Hunter's sister Casey have grown up as best friends, spending time at each others homes, with Casey as much a part of the family as the actual siblings were.  Hunter and his twin brother Brody are Casey's older brothers, 5 years older to be exact.  Gabby has had a crush on Hunter ever since she can remember.  On the night of her high school graduation one kiss changes the whole dynamic of their relationship, crushing Gabby's heart and dreams.  After spending five years on the professional surfers circuit and earning himself a top position in the sport, Hunter is back in town, having bought a local bar and grill which is in need of some work, which Gabby ultimately is hired to do.  The more time they spend together, the harder it is to deny their feelings, but as the past and the future begin to collide, will it be more than they can handle?

I really loved both Hunter and Gabby's characters.  Gabby is a woman trying to make it in a man's world and handles herself very well.  Hunter is just one of those hot surfer dream guys.  As a former player, I was really impressed by his loyalty in this book.  Gabby is the more reluctant of the two and I wanted to shake her a couple of times, but I understood where she was coming from.  The chemistry between the two is so thick you could cut it with a knife, and the romance, well let's just say Sawyer Bennett delivers big time in that area.  There are quite a few secondary characters, all of whom I liked with the exception of Sasha, and Bennett has laid the ground work for some really great companion novels in the future.  The story itself kept my attention and kept me turning the pages, enjoying every minute.  Sawyer Bennett has a great writing style, which she demonstrates yet again in On the Rocks.  I cannot wait to read the second book in the series, which will be about Hunter's broody brother Brody.  Overall, this is a great contemporary romance and the beginning of what looks to be another must read series by Sawyer Bennett, one I definitely recommend contemporary romance fans checking out.
