From New York Times and USA Today Bestselling author, Marquita Valentine, comes the 4th book in her new adult series, BOYS OF THE SOUTH.
There's only one place in the world Lacey Evans feels normal- the roller derby track. When she laces up her skates and fastens her helmet, she's powerful and in charge. She knows exactly what to do and what to say. The rules are clear and penalties are enforced for those who don't follow them. But in the read world, she's far from powerful and in charge. She never knows exactly what to do and say. For years, she counted on one person to be exactly who he said he was--her best friend, Wyatt Tanaka. Only she changed the rules on him, without any warning, and now she's the one being punished.
Marine veteran, Wyatt Tanaka, came home to a heroes welcome. But he's hiding a secret, one that could potential destroy his life. He's doing the best he can, trying to cope with the guilt and the pain of the girl he loves pushing him away by doing all the things he'd sworn not too. Women, bars, drugs and drinking are what consume him. With Lacey's new rules, he has nothing to hold on to. Nothing to keep in from feeling dead.
Then one night, he goes too far, gets in too deep, and when the truth comes out... will Lacey keep pushing him away or help save him?
But in the end, I’m the man who loves her, the man who’ll always love her, and I’ll always protect her, even from things that don’t go bump in the night, even when she tells me she doesn’t need me.
Wish For You is told from both Lacey's and Wyatt's point of view, which I loved, because it enabled you to get inside both characters head and experience things through their perspective. Both Lacey and Wyatt struggle, Wyatt with the aftereffects of his tour in Afghanistan and Lacey with her panic issues, both feel like they're messed up freaks, and both cope with their issues in different ways, some of them very unhealthy ways, especially where Wyatt is concerned. Overall, I really liked Wyatt's character, though he did have to earn that. He said and did some things in the first part of the book that really made me angry with him, even if Lacey was pushing him away. Lacey, you can't help but want to protect her. She is very naive, except when she has her skates on and is in the roller derby rink. One thing that I liked about her was her honesty, which sometimes made her come across as very blunt, but it makes her the person she is. As far as the other characters, well we get to see glimpses of Cole and Rae, and even more of Beau, and some of Parker. I can't wait for Beau and Parker's stories.
I really enjoy Marquita Valentine's writing, and true to form she has delivered another great story in Wish For You. Not only does she provide her readers with a really great romance that is hot and sexy, she also addresses some really serious issues and their affects, shedding light and bringing awareness to them.
I read the entire book in one sitting because I just didn't want to put it down. This friends to lovers story is romantic and has both really happy and really sad moments. The chemistry between Wyatt and Lacey is sizzling, and I loved the way Marquita Valentine was able to portray Lacey's innocence along with her inner vixen at the same time. Though my favorite couple is still Cole and Rae, Wyatt and Lacey's story runs a close second, but then again, I have truly enjoyed all the books in the series and the characters that live inside them immensely. Wish For You and the entire Boys in the South Series is a must read for New Adult Romance fans and something I thoroughly enjoyed and most definitely recommend.
