Title: 8 Weeks
Series: Time For Love #1
Author: Bethany Lopez
Release DateMarch 24, 2014

Summary: Is eight weeks enough time to earn back the love of someone you've betrayed...the only one you've ever loved?

Shelly has been in love with Cal since they started dating in eleventh grade. Despite everyone saying that the odds were against them, they got married after graduation and built a life together. Now, six years later, she is faced with the ultimate betrayal. Devastated, her first instinct is to call it quits…

After a drunken binge at his best friends’ bachelor party, Cal betrays the one person who has always been there for him, his wife, Shelly. Terrified and realizing she might divorce him, Cal must come up with a way to prove to her that his love is true…

Cal asks Shelly for eight weeks. Eight weeks to convince her that their marriage is worth the fight. Will Shelly be able to trust him again, or will their marriage end the way many others do when faced with opposition… In divorce?

8 Weeks is book 1 in the Time for Love series, but can be read as a stand alone.

Shelly's POV
He held up his hands as if in surrender and said, “Please … Don’t go. Don’t do this.”
“I didn’t do anything, you did. I can’t stay,” I sobbed. “I can’t stand to look at you.”
I turned my back on the hurt look on his face and slammed the door on my way out.
I got into my little Ford pickup and peeled out in the driveway in my haste to get as far away from Cal as possible. As I drove on autopilot, the enormity of the situation weighed heavily on my mind.
The only man I’d ever loved, who I’d always trusted implicitly, had just made a mockery of everything I’d thought and felt over the last six years of our relationship.
I was in shock.
I’d always believed that Cal and I would be together forever … That we’d have children and grow old together.
That he would never hurt me.
Well, he hadn’t just hurt me. He’d crushed me. He’d crushed us.

About:

Bethany Lopez began self-publishing in June 2011. Since then she has published various YA and NA books. She is a lover of romance, family, and friends, and enjoys incorporating those things in what she writes. When she isn't reading or writing, she loves spending time with her husband and children, traveling whenever possible.

My Thoughts:  Everyone thought Shelly and Cal had the perfect marriage, even Shelly and Cal.  They fell in love in high school and had been married for 6 wonderful years - still totally in love with each other, which makes what happens even harder.  Cal's best friend is getting married and they throw him a bachelor party in Vegas, where they subsequently get totally smashed, especially Cal.  When Cal wakes up the next morning with no recollection of the events that transpired the night before, yet the evidence of what he has done is painfully obvious.  As much as he knows the truth is going to hurt Shelly, he knows he could never lie to her, so he confesses, and as much as they still love each other, Shelly can't get past it and wants a divorce.  Not willing to give up the only woman he's ever loved, he convinces her to give him 8 weeks to prove his love, to prove that their marriage his worth saving, to prove that she can trust him again, and to earn her forgiveness.  This is their story.

I love Bethany Lopez's books, so when I found out she had written another, of course I wanted to read it, and I really did love it.  Bethany Lopez takes a subject that isn't new or original, and creates a story that is beautiful, heartbreaking, heartwarming, adding her own twist to it, which makes the story both refreshing and enjoyable.  I really loved both Shelly and Cal's characters, and despite what happened, you just can't help but love Cal and want to root for him and for their marriage.  During these 8 weeks, you journey along with Cal and Shelly as they find themselves again and redefine their relationship with each other, while making totally new discoveries about themselves and their marriage.  Shelly is a stubborn one and I can't blame her at all, but Cal is even more determined than she is stubborn, which makes for quite an interesting story.

As far as the secondary characters, I totally loved them all, especially TJ and Sasha, whose story will be next in the series.  If you are a fan of Bethany Lopez's Friends and Lovers Series, then you will love 8 weeks.  The romance will make you smile and the chemistry and sexy scenes are hot, and written with just the right amount of steam without overdoing it.  So many books today take a good story, but with every other page being a sex scene, it makes the encounters not as special or memorable.  Don't get me wrong, I love a hot steamy sex scene, but overkill I do not.  Sometimes, less is more, and Lopez demonstrates that excellently in this novel.  The book kept my attention from beginning to end and I thoroughly enjoyed it.  If you love to read good contemporary romance, then 8 weeks is something I would definitely recommend checking out.

    1. I don't like cheating stories either, but the circumstances behind this one were different than most, so I really enjoyed it.

  4. Great excerpt and Review Ellen! I like that Ms.Lopez can take on a storyline that isn't new or original, and make it beautiful while also making it her own! This sounds very entertaining! I appreciate great secondary characters, and I love a story with sexual tension, that leaves a little to the imagination!
