Review: The Hazards of a One Night Stand by Alyssa Rose Ivy

The Hazards of a One Night Stand Cover

One small town boy, one girl who wants more, one roll in the hay...

Hooking up with your high school crush is a bad idea, a really bad idea. It was only supposed to be one night, one brief departure from my real life, but nothing ever works out exactly the way you plan.

Colton Waters was everything from my past that didn't fit into my present, so why did he have to show up at my college and pledge the one frat I couldn't avoid?

Because nothing is ever meant to happen just once. At least not the life changing things that mean the difference between falling apart and falling in love.

My Thoughts: Mallory is home for the summer after spending her freshman year away from college.  She couldn't wait to get out of the small town she lived in, and even hated having to come back for the summer months.  When she runs into her ex-boyfriend's younger brother, Colton, who she has secretly had a crush on for years, what begins as two friends getting reacquainted winds up as a hot, passion-filled roll in the hay. When it's all said and done, Mallory wants to make it a one night stand, but Colton has other plans, plans that Mallory soon finds herself face-to-face with back at college.  Turns out her roll in the hay just got way more complicated than she bargained for.

I loved Colton.  He was just dreamy with a killer smile, charm, and enough cockiness to make him adorably sexy.  There was just one problem, at least for Mallory, and that was the fact that he was her ex-boyfriend's younger brother.  Though only 3 months younger than Mallory, Colton was a grade behind her in school, and for some reason she had a real problem with this, which was one of the major issues she battled with throughout the book.  While I did like her, I just want to shake her and tell her, "get a grip girlfriend and learn to embrace your inner cougar cub and go for it."  Though she tried to deny it, she couldn't deny her attraction to Colt, who was also one of her best friends.  The chemistry between them was sizzling, but they have a lot of issues to overcome if they want to be together, the biggest being Mallory's hang-ups.  Colt was impressive in the way he handled everything that goes down in the book though. I enjoyed getting to know the other characters in the book, and also getting to see some of the characters were originally met in The Hazards of Skinny Dipping, especially Juliet and Reed.

Overall, I found The Hazards of a One Night Stand to be a fun, entertaining, and enjoyable story.  I love Alyssa Rose Ivy's writing, and she provides another wonderful contemporary romance for her fans.  If you are a contemporary romance fan, then The Hazards of a One Night Stand is something well worth checking out.  I'm looking forward to seeing what Alyssa Rose Ivy has in store for us all next.

  1. I love her YA series and I have yet to try anything else by her but I did pick this one up. I think I will definitely give it a try now.

  2. It would be so awkward to fall for your ex's younger sibling! I'm glad you enjoyed Hazards #2, Ellen. Nice review!

  3. When you're young that age gap is always so much bigger. Once you get older that's nothing. I'm almost a year older than my husband and I guess I didn't get hung up on it even though I was like 19 or so when we got together and I think he wasn't even quite 18 yet. I think it might be hard reading about that being a big hang up for her, but I guess everyone is different. And if she's in college and he's not, that might make it harder. Who wants to tell their friends they are dating a high school kid? lol.

  4. I'm with Andrea...I stopped at ex's younger sibling and went eeee. I'm really glad you enjoyed.

  6. I'm a huge Ivy fan and I loved the 1st book in this series so I know I'll enjoy this one too. He's only 3 months younger right?! Lol.
