A jaded Chicago reporter in her twenties unexpectedly finds love in Napa Valley when she’s assigned to spend a week with a famously reclusive genius in this rich and deeply satisfying contemporary romance by the USA TODAY bestselling author of Sweet Thing.

Kate Corbin has lost her spark. A year ago, she had a handsome boyfriend and a budding career as a reporter at a popular Chicago newspaper. But after the woman who raised her passed away, leaving her lost and alone, she fell into a rut—and never got out. Now she’s stuck writing fluff pieces about lipstick and wine, and feeling trapped in a relationship that’s going nowhere.

Trusting that the hungry, ace reporter is buried somewhere deep inside, Kate’s boss and mentor gives her the opportunity to jump-start her career. The assignment: spend a week interviewing R. J. Lawson, a famously reclusive tech genius who disappeared years ago but recently reemerged as the owner of a well-respected Napa Valley winery.

Kate jumps at the chance, but the trip begins in disaster, both personally and professionally. After alienating R.J., her only saving grace is Jamie, a charming vineyard hand who shows her the beauty of wine country—and stirs her aching heart. It doesn’t take long for Kate and Jamie to fall hard, and for Kate to rethink her life in the city. But the week ends with a heartbreaking journey back to Chicago that sends Kate reeling, wondering what went wrong in those four perfect days.

My Thoughts:  Nowhere but Here is the first book I have read by Renee Carlino, but it certainly won't be my last.  In a world filled with contemporary romance Carlino has written a beautiful story that has that special something-something that just makes it stand out from the crowd.

Kate Corbin is a reporter.  She has believed for far too long that the only person she can count on is herself.  She's been made to feel that she's not special, and loss and grief has caused her to close off her heart to love out of fear.  This has caused her to lose that "spark" that made her writing special.  Her boss, however, hasn't given up on her, so when she finds out her assignment to interview the reclusive R.J. Lawson, she is more than shocked, because it's a really important assignment.  Upon arrival at Napa Valley, she "runs into" Jamie, literally, and immediately finds him to bring out more than just her temper.  Jamie is one of those guys that grabs your heart from the get go.  He's sexy, rugged, has a great sense of humor, and the fact that he is really pleasant to look at doesn't hurt either.  The chemistry between these two is electric, and they immediately hit it off.  Unfortunately, the same can't be said when Kate meets R.J. Lawson.  Nevertheless, she loves the staff, and Jamie, well he manages to bring something out in Kate that she didn't even know she was missing.  I loved the banter between these two.  The romance was sweet, swoon-worthy, and sizzling at times.  Jamie has a secret, and while I figured it out early on, it did absolutely nothing to take away from the book at all.  When a situation arises that causes misunderstanding and hurt, everything that Kate dreamed may be possible is shattered, and any hopes of a relationship that would result in a happily ever after ending is quickly crushed, at least in Kate's mind.  Jamie, however, is determined to win her back, but are his efforts too little too late?

Nowhere but Here is a beautifully written story that contains all the ingredients that make for a perfect romance all nicely blended together, creating a wonderful story, with characters that you will love and root for, romance that warms your heart and causes you to smile, while at the same time bringing that spark that will make you fan your face at times.  If you are a contemporary romance fan, then Nowhere but Here is one of those books you will be glad you took the time to read and I definitely recommend it.
