Whisper To Me

Publisher: Penguin Group (USA) LLC
Publication Date:  May 20, 2014
Book Blurb:

Hot and consuming, this is a New Adult romance about a wayward musician and the one girl who keeps him grounded…

At college, Rachel has a reputation for being a sarcastic flirt with a thing for ripped athletes. No one at college knows her heart was ripped to shreds by her high school boyfriend, who’d driven them both off the side of the road on a borrowed motorcycle. And then subsequently abandoned her. No one really knows Rachel Mattson at all, with one exception…

Ever since he helped nurse his sister’s feisty best friend back to health, pierced bass player Kai Nakos has been head over heels in love. But the supposed bad boy can’t risk letting Rachel know the truth—especially now that the two of them are back in their hometown for the summer, together for the first time since the months following that horrible night. Never mind that Rachel’s ex is also back, groveling for her forgiveness.

Shaken by her ex’s return, Rachel finds herself turning to the one guy she knows she can trust. Now that Kai has had a taste of Rachel, he’s willing to do anything just to have her touch him again, even hiding his true feelings. After all, she only wants a temporary fling. Until it becomes something more. But perhaps it had been more all along.

Fifteen things about Christina Lee
*I used to live in NYC and worked as a wardrobe stylist on some TV shows and magazine shoots.
*I binge watch The Real Housewives seasons.
*I lost my older brother in my twenties. He was whip smart, adventurous and a beautiful spirit. He was also in a very loving gay relationship and one day, I plan to write a male/male romance dedicated to him. I’ve already tried my hand at a m/m YA romance years ago, but this one will be adult and very special to me.
*I try tirelessly to install the concept of equality in my child. We tell him that he is free to love whomever he chooses, male or female. I hope that makes my brother proud.
*I’m very eclectic in my TV viewing—I just appreciate great writing, staging, and of course, acting. Currently, I’m a diehard fan of these shows: Downton Abbey, The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, and Orange is the New Black.
*My favorite television show of all time was probably Six Feet Under.
*I knew a guy like my virgin Bennett in All of You. I won’t out him, but know that guys like him do in fact, exist.
*My nine year old Little Bean (as I affectionately refer to him) named Quinn’s muscle cars in Before You Break. I think he did a great job.
*Rachel’s background story is closely related to one experienced by someone very dear to me. She is a beautiful and brave soul and I dedicated the book to her.
*My favorite color is spring green to go along with my favorite season.
*I’d take salty chips over a bowl of ice cream any day (unless the ice cream was salted caramel).
*I hated high school with the fire of a thousand suns and finally found my groove in college, which might’ve been the appeal to me of writing New Adult.
*At the movie theatre, I mix Milk Duds with my popcorn, just like Ella did in Before You Break.
*My favorite scenes to write in Whisper to Me were the ones where Rachel and Kai met secretly in his bedroom at night. Clandestine and hot. ;-)

My Review:  Whisper to Me is the third book in Christina Lee's Between Breath's Series.  Each book in the series is a companion novel and can be read as a standalone, while incorporating the characters from the previous novels as well.  I have to say that I have thoroughly enjoyed this series, and I loved Whisper to Me as much as I did All of You, Bennett and Avery's story, which is the first book in the series.

Whisper to Me is Rachel and Kai's story, and OMG, Kai is her sexiest guy yet.  I loved him.  He has that bad boy tattooed rock star thing going on, yet has a whole other side buried underneath that persona that I felt added so much to his appeal as a character.  We met and got to see a little of Rachel in the first two stories, but I really enjoyed getting to know more about her and her story in Whisper to Me.  Rachel and Kai both have secrets and have both run from those secrets in an attempt to forget, doing things to forget the past and its hurts.  Circumstances are set in place that allow these two best friends to once again find themselves together and old feelings are rekindled, while new feelings are explored.  Kai is Rachel's close friend Dakota's brother, and taking their relationship any further than friendship is something that is off limits.  Love always manages to find a way though, no matter how hard you try to deny it.

Not only is Rachel and Kai's story romantic and captivating, it is incredibly sexy with some fan your face moments that are oh so very, very hot.  I love Christina Lee's writing style and her ability to captivate me as a reader, because I definitely did not want to put this book down.  She has managed to create hotties in the series so far that are not only appealing, but also uniquely different, while writing a story that captures your attention and keeps you rooting for the characters while devouring each page.  Whisper to Me is a wonderful addition to this series and if you are a contemporary romance fan, then this is something well worth your time.  I can't wait to see what Christina Lee has in store for us in the next installment in this series.

  5. I love that she mentions her brother that she lost who was in a loving gay relationship and that she wants to write a book dedicated to him. That makes me tear up. I also love that she teaches her child (ren) to love everyone equally.
