Just when she thought things were going up…
Two years after a devastating breakup, Brittni Mitchell has moved on from Justin Avery—or so she tells herself. But when she returns to Seattle for her best friend’s engagement party, Brittni finds herself the victim of a disastrously timed elevator breakdown. She’s trapped with the last person she wants to face, and forced to recount the past she desperately wants to forget.
She’s going to have to look back…
When Brittni left her podunk hometown for a big city college experience at the University of Washington, hooking up with a guy like Justin Avery was not part of her plan. Between Justin’s attention-grabbing tattoos, cigarette smoking, and bad boy attitude Brittni quickly chalked him up as Mr. Wrong.” But his charm was unrelenting, and Brittni’s decision to give Justin a chance quickly turned into the worst choice she ever made.
So that she might be able to move forward.
Now she’s stuck with Justin—literally—and the complicated web of misunderstandings that tied up the truth for two years is about to unravel.
My Thoughts: It's been two years since the love of Brittni Mitchell's life crushed her heart, so much so that she ran away, back home, trying to get things back together. Now her best friend is getting married and she has to return for the engagement party. Justin Avery has been angry, confused, and has felt betrayed by the girl he loved more than anything. He never thought she would betray him the way she did. The last thing either of them expects is to get stuck in an elevator together for hour. Forced to face one another, as the hours pass, the truth behind the misunderstandings becomes clearer, but will it be too little to late?
Misunderstandings is written in a "then and now" type fashion, alternating between the past and the present, so you get a good feel of what went on to cause the rift between Brittini and Justin, and see where they are at in the present. The hurt they both harbored gradually melds into regret for the way things were handled, especially when the truth comes out, but also provides opportunity for healing. I enjoyed both of the characters, and you can see where both of them were coming in their beliefs and the way they handled things, and found myself rooting for each of them at times, while wanting to shake them at others. I figured out what the misunderstanding was about early on, which was confirmed later in the book, but that didn't take away from my enjoyment of it. I enjoyed watching the relationship develop both from a past perspective, as well as being rekindled in the present.
Overall, Misunderstandings is a very enjoyable contemporary romance that is interesting, has that chemistry that a good romance needs, and provides and story line that will keep you turning the pages to see where Tiffany King was going to take these characters and their relationship. Check it out.
“I can’t go out with you. I don’t even like you.”
“He used to say we worked because I was immune to his powers of flirtation and he was the looseness to my uptightness. He claimed we brought out the best in each other. He was right until he was wrong.”
“You betrayed my heart. You left me broken and alone in front of everyone… You left me holding all the shattered pieces.”
