FIVE WAYS TO FALL
(TEN TINY BREATHS #4)
By K.A. Tucker
Published:  June 24, 2014
Publisher:  Atria Books

Purple-haired, sharp-tongued Reese MacKay knows all about making the wrong choice; she’s made plenty of them in her twenty-odd-years. So when her impulsive, short-lived marriage ends in heartbreak, she decides it’s time for a change. She moves to Miami with the intention of hitting reset on her irresponsible life, and she does quite well…aside from an epically humiliating one-night stand in Cancun with a hot blond bouncer named Ben. Thank God she can get on a plane and leave that mistake behind her.

Football scholarship and frat parties with hot chicks? Part of charmer Ben Morris’s plan. Blown knee that kills any hope of a professional football career? So not part of the plan. Luckily Ben has brains to go with his knockout looks and magnetism. After three long years of balancing law school with his job as a bouncer at Penny’s Palace, he’s ready to lead a more mature life—until his first day of work, when he finds himself in the office of that crazy, hot chick he met in Cancun. The one he hasn’t stopped thinking about.

If Ben truly were a smart guy, he’d stay clear of Reese. She’s the boss’s stepdaughter and it’s been made very clear that office romances are grounds for dismissal. Plus, rumor has it she’s trouble. The only problem is, he likes trouble, especially when it’s so good-looking…

My Review:  The Ten Tiny Breaths series is one of my favorites and I've enjoyed each and every book in the series.  Five Ways to Fall is Ben and Reese's story.  We met Ben Morris in book one, Ten Tiny Breaths, and I liked him in that book and enjoyed seeing him in the subsequent novels as well.  I am not really sure what I expected, but Ben floored me in this book.  A former bouncer at Penny's Place, now out of law school, Ben is so not like anything I imagined him to be, and in a good way.  He may have been a man-whore, but he makes no qualms about it is surprisingly honest and up front about things.  Reese, on the other hand, is a pro at lying.  Purple hair, tats, says what she thinks, does what she wants, and is still bitter about her ex, and the combination has landed her in some deep s**t, which ultimately results in her winding up at her stepfather's law firm....with Ben.....  The two had met previously while vacationing in Cancun Mexico and the result of that meeting was well, very, very interesting.

Ben is so unlike the type of guy Reese goes for, yet she feels herself drawn to him, despite her reservations.  Ben is drawn to Reese also.  First, because she's a girl, but there is more to her that just another notch on his belt.  She gets under his skin.  Office regulations say no romance between employees, a rule which is very hard to obey.....for both of them.  I loved watching their relationship develop though, and thoroughly enjoyed their banter.  I absolutely loved Ben's sense of humor, something I was unaware of and so glad I got to see in this novel.  Both Ben and Reese are very, very smart, Reese exceptionally so, which she has demonstrated on numerous occasions at the law firm.  She's had a very rough past, which is kind of heartbreaking.  Ben also has had to go through a lot of crap regarding his family.  The loyalty he shows to his mom, the way he loves her, helps her, and the way he loves his brothers and sister was wonderful.

The secondary characters in the book were also great and I enjoyed them immensely.  There is quite a bit more humor in this book than in the previous novel, which was refreshing and all of this emanated from both Ben's and Reese's personalities.  Reese was a hoot in her own way and I think you'll enjoy her a lot also.  The romance is hot, and I was caught up in the story from beginning to end.  Five Ways to Fall in an excellent addition to this series, and if you haven't started it, I hope you will make time to soon because it is really great.  Five Ways to Fall is the last planned novel in this series and I am really sad to see it go.  It's one of those series you won't forget.

Quotes:
“Have you always loved yourself this much?”
“I had an awkward year in ‘ninety-nine, but I got over it quick.”

“You’re not my type.”
I’ve heard this before and I don’t believe her. Hell, I’m everyone’s type! Eventually.”

“No way a guy who’s been in there wouldn’t be bothered watching someone else stick his tongue in your mouth.”
“I think you should send that straight to Hallmark.”

“You know you’re a pig, right?”…
“Yeah, but I’m your pig tonight.”
I want your womanizing mama’s-boy football-player butt all to myself and if I catch you with any Twinkies or beautify queens or anyone else, you’d better run fast because I will hunt you down.”
