Jesse Boone is a self-proclaimed bad boy and
doesn’t march to the beat of anyone’s drum but his own. Growing up in less than
desirable circumstances has made him no stranger to the hard knock life but his
determination to leave it behind is fervent. He sees an opportunity to snag a
college football scholarship when he’s transferred to East Franklin High School
but Forbes Henderson has other plans. The player Jesse intends to replace doesn’t
plan on giving up his spot as starting quarterback so a rivalry is born. Jesse
is determined to show his nemesis that he’s not only going to take his position
as first string quarterback, he’s going to take his girl, too.
Claire Deveraux is perfection at its best. She’s
beautiful, intelligent, and unaware she just became Jesse Boone’s conquest to
settle a score with her boyfriend. Like her flawless performance as the perfect
daughter and student, Claire’s production of being the perfect girlfriend has
everyone fooled, except Jesse Boone. She fears this tattooed bad boy will see
her secret desire to explore his crude threats and promises of rocking her
perfect world. If she decides to give in to one uninhibited moment with Jesse,
will she learn too late that it was all an act of vengeance or will Jesse learn
that the taste of first love is sweeter than that of revenge?
My Review: Jessie Boone is your typical oh so hot bad boy, who you can't help but fall in love with, especially as you begin to learn more about his story and his past. He's at a new high school, a star football player, he comes from the wrong side of town, and he has past that he would like to keep hidden. Claire Deveraux is the classic "high school sweetheart," a cheerleader, smart, sweet, and just happens to date the guy who got replaced by Jessie on the football team. What starts out as a game of revenge turns into something so much more. Jessie is the only one who sees past Claire's facade of being perfect, and she is the only one who sees past Jessie's hard outer shell to the great guy he is on the inside. The only problem is that they are from two different worlds, and as the reader, we get to experience what happens when those worlds collide.
This story will pull at your heartstrings, causing you to experience a wide variety of emotions. Georgia Cates has done an excellent job of putting you right in the middle of everything that is going on - all the heartache, the joy, the romance, the passion, the drama - you experience it all. I really loved the characters in this story. Claire's snarky friend Payton, was one of my favorites. I also liked Claire and admired the fact that she was able to see past "societies labels" and see Jessie for who he really is. I absolutely fell in love with Jessie Boone. OMG, he is one of my most favorite hot bad boys ever. He puts on this tough, hard exterior because the hand he has been dealt in life has been a hard one, and one that hasn't been fair. The chemistry between Jessie and Claire is off the charts. They face many obstacles in their relationship, some of which cause them to stumble and fall, and they don't always make the best choices, but love refuses to be denied and always manages to find a way.
I was hooked from page one and there was not a dull moment in the whole book. I was drawn into the story immediately, and although I felt as if my heart would break sometimes, Georgia has inserted some humor in just the right places to perfectly balance things out. Georgia certainly delivered in the romance area to. It was really hot, and let me just say the ending absolutely blew me away - that is all I can say about that without giving too much away. If you are a lover of contemporary romance, this is one story you won't want to miss.
Nick Hawke wants his car fast and his girls
faster. He blows through them quicker than his muscle car races down the drag
strip in Collinsville and he wouldn’t have it any other way. He’s determined to
avoid the devastation he has watched his father endure in the aftermath of his
mother’s abandonment. He believes there is no room in his life or his heart for
a relationship lasting more than one night. He seeks happiness in things that
won’t let him down––fast cars, adrenaline highs, and one night stands. All of
that changes when he unexpectedly runs into an old friend and is introduced to
Payton Archer, the first girl he ever wanted for more than a night. There’s
only one catch––she’s completely immune to him and his smooth talking ways.
Payton Archer is looking for love––the true, mad,
deep kind. She’s given up on finding it, at least until she leaves for college
because she’s certain that is where she’ll find the ideal guy to fit into her
perfect world. Her summer plans include nothing more than three uneventful
months of fun but it turns out to be anything but ordinary when Payton meets
Nick Hawke, one of Jesse’s old Collinsville friends. She’s shocked by her
immediate and intense attraction for “Hawke” because nothing about him is on
her checklist for the perfect love. Sure, he’s hot and sexy but he comes from
Collinsville and that is definitely not on her list of prerequisites.
Everything about him makes Payton’s heart speed. He’s exciting and dangerous
but his fast car and chance taking aren't what scares Payton the most. It’s the
way Nick Hawke makes her feel every time he looks at her. Can Payton find the
courage to leave the safe, shallow end of love and risk going under completely?
My Review: Let me begin by saying what a huge Georgia Cates fan I am. I absolutely fell in love with Jessie Boone in Going Under. Jessie and Claire's story was amazing. Payton Archer is Claire's best friend, and Shallow is Payton and Nick's story and it's amazing. I loved Payton's character in Going Under and was so excited when I found out she was getting her own story. She is snarky, outspoken, not easily intimated, and used to getting her way. She is not afraid to say what she thinks, and as a matter of fact, she does that quite often. Nick Hawke is hotness personified. He is another one of those bad boys you can't resist. He's used to getting his way to, he's not used to being told no, especially by a girl, and he has decided he wants Payton. Little does he realize, he has met in match in Payton Archer. Payton has already been warned by Jessie about Nick Hawke. Turns out he is quite the ladies man. Jessie told her, "I don't want you falling for any of his Jedi sex tricks."
Despite Nick's hotness, Payton has already decided that he is a man-whore and a playah - and there is no way he's getting anywhere near her panties. Nick, however, wants more than getting into Payton's panties, a whole lot more, and he doesn't give up easily. He thinks Payton is the most beautiful girl he's ever seen, and her smart ass attitude and the fact that she isn't afraid to put him in his place, only adds fuel to the fire. They are from different sides of the tracks, different worlds really, but the chemistry between these two is off the charts. To say they have obstacles to overcome would be an understatement and when Nick's past comes back to haunt him, he faces losing the only girl he'll ever love forever, and Payton faces her greatest fear, a broken heart, not to mention some rather unpleasant secrets in her own family. Will these two be able to make it, or is this going to be an epic fail?
This book ranks up there in my favorite list, and is one that has made in into that special list called "to be read again." I just fell in love with this story and I truly loved everything about it. The characters are great. I was hooked from page one and didn't want to put the book down. The romance was hot and there was plenty of humor, but also a serious side. Payton Archer is one of those characters you will never forget, and Nick Hawke is one of those hotties you dream about. Georgia ends this story so well. I just love epilogues and this book has a great one. Georgia Cates has yet again produced another 5-star read that is outstanding. If you are a lover of contemporary romance, then this is one book you won't want to miss.
