Blog Tour: Elicit by Rachel Van Dyken with Interview, Excerpt, Review, and Giveaway

Cursed, numb, rejected, scorned, wicked, sinister, dark, name is Tex Campisi and this is my legacy. I killed my father in cold blood and lost my soul right along with him.
I crave war more than peace, and I'm about to take my place in history as the youngest Capo dei Capi in the Cosa Nostra...that is until someone stops me, saves me from myself.

But the only person able to do my best friends sister, Mo Abandanato, and she just ripped my heart out and asked me to hold it in my hands while she put bullets through it.

Im cursed so I did it.
I'm numb so I held it.
I'm wicked so I liked it.
I used the pain Mo caused as a catalyst to turn into my biggest nightmare--the five families greatest enemy. It's my turn to take a stand, knowing full well I'm going to lose my mind to the madness that is the American Mafia. I've always been told Blood is thicker than life. I wish I would have listened. Because regardless of who you love? You will betray. You will kill.
Blood Always Wins.
The only way out is death...yours.

Welcome to the Dark Side of the Family

 Interview with Rachel Van Dyken

Hi Rachel, thanks so much for being here.  I’m a huge fan and your Eagle Elite Series is one of my favorites.

Thank you so much! I'm happy to be here and answer some questions! :)

Where did you get your idea for  the Eagle Elite Series

My husband, trust me he's always like "credit where credit is due." Lol there was a news story about an ex mafia made man who was arrested around 30 miles from our happened I think three years ago. He was LOVED by the community and moved there to become a farmer, super involved in the town and all the local stuff. He was in hiding for over 15 years from the mafia and when the FBI went to arrest him they discovered tons of weapons in his house along with cash. Super interesting story and thats where the whole Eagle Elite was born. My husband said I needed to write romantic suspense and Im the type of girl that gets stressed out watching mission impossible, alright? So it was def a stretch for me but I'm so glad I did it. ;) Traces Grandpa Frank is based on the character from idaho only I switched locations.

I am so excited to read Tex’s story in Elicit.  Can you tell us a little about Tex?

Tex isn't what he's portrayed as in the first few books, you suddenly see a side of him that he rarely shows anyone in the first few books. You catch a glimpse of it at the end of Entice...He's dark, moody, numb, and enjoys his job, like actually enjoys killing, it brings him peace in a life full of war. He's different because he isn't conflicted morally about what he does, he craves it. He's kind of like the monster you know you shouldn't love but do anyways. He also exposes the dark side of the mafia, the side I rarely talk about. His story brings about a lot of violence and pain.

What is your favorite scene or quote from Elicit

In the end he would chose Campisi. In the end she would choose Abandonato. In the end, there will be bloodshed. ;)

How many books are you planning to write in the series and what can we expect next?

It started out as two books, then went to three. Now I'm at around 8 or 9 to finish out the series, possibly more. The next story releasing is Bang Bang in September and it's about Sergio's's a novella written to grab new readers mid series so they don't have to catch up. Enforce follows that in December and is Elite from Nixon and Chase's POV. In January the next full installment releases, Ember.

You have written quite a few books.  If you had to choose, which character in your books would you say has been your favorite to write, and which character has been your most challenging?

My favorite so far has been Tex. He just had so many layers to him so much to say. I really enjoyed getting in his head and had a really hard time finishing his book.

If you had to sum up ELICIT up in a tweet, what would it say?

The dark side never looked so good. ;) #teamcampisi #texforpresident

Can you tell us what you’re current working on?

Right now I'm working on a few more Elite novels along with a regency book, I know weird combo ;) I have to re-release a few titles as well so Im busy, as always ;)

What is your favorite thing to do when your not writing?

Read. I know I sound insane but I LOVE reading. I can't read in the same genre I'm writing in so I usually read historical when I'm writing about guns, and I read fantasy when I write historical. It works.

Thank you so much for being here today Rachel.  I cannot wait to see what you have in story for us in the future regarding this series!

I had to believe that there was a light at the end of the tunnel and if there wasn’t, well I was screwed.
Whistling, I pulled open the door to the house and walked into the kitchen. Chase was standing there shirtless, sweat pouring down his chest as he devoured a cinnamon roll and cup of coffee. My stomach growled at the smell of fresh rolls.
“I made the rolls.” Chase’s eyes narrowed over his steaming cup of coffee. “After I punched a bag with your face on it.”
“How’d my face turn out?” I asked, genuinely curious.
“Wouldn’t know.” Chase shrugged. “I got tired of punching and eventually pulled out my gun. I’ll buy Nixon another punching bag tomorrow.”
“Hmm, got a little rage, Chase?”
“I don’t know Tex, care to sucker punch me again and find out?”
“Ladies.” Nixon stormed into the room. “Tuck those ovaries back into your pants and grow some balls—nobody’s punching anyone.”
“Says who?” I snorted bracing my hands on the counter top.
“Says the guy who’s going to put a bullet in your head if you as much as hint as disrespecting me in my own home.” Nixon yawned and reached for a cup, then offered me one. “Coffee?”
“Probably time to retire when threatening your friends over coffee seems normal, Nixon.” I took the cup. “Just saying.”
“Probably time to take Xanax if you’re punching your best friend in the face for breathing.” Chase lifted his cup mockingly into the air. “Just sayin’.

My Review:  I am a huge Rachel Van Dyken fangirl and I can truthfully say that The Eagle Elite series is one of my absolute favorites.  I feel like it is almost like a huge secret and I just want to let everyone in on how good it is.  I have never enjoyed mafia type shows, movies, or books, but I have completely devoured every book in this series and when I finish one, I cannot wait for the next to come out.  It is truly fresh and so different, standing out like a beacon in a sea of romantic suspense books/series that are available.

Elicit is Tex's story and oh my, is his story fantastic.  He is such a complex individual.....dark, funny, a bit twisted, wounded, and the things he thinks, says, and does have you turning the pages, not wanting to put the book down.  Another thing I love about this series is how each book focuses mainly on certain characters, yet they all of the characters from the previous novels are integrated into each book and are written so well that you feel like you know them as if you were part of the family as also.  Then there is the mafia aspect, which is also so wonderfully written and different from anything else I've seen or read before, focusing in the seriousness of the the situation, mixing it with some really hot romance, suspense, and danger.  When you take all that and mix in the awesome characters Rachel Van Dyken has created, you have a book that is like a culinary delight that explodes upon your palate leaving you craving more and more.  I can't wait for you to read it and I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.
