Embrace the Forbidden

What if there were teens whose lives literally depended on being bad influences?

This is the reality for sons and daughters of fallen angels.
Tenderhearted Southern girl Anna Whitt was born with the sixth sense to see and feel emotions of other people. She's aware of a struggle within herself, an inexplicable pull toward danger, but it isn't until she turns sixteen and meets the alluring Kaidan Rowe that she discovers her terrifying heritage and her willpower is put to the test. He's the boy your daddy warned you about. If only someone had warned Anna.

Forced to face her destiny, will Anna embrace her halo or her horns?

My Thoughts:  Well, I've had this book forever and every time I started to pick it up to read it, something else would come up.  A sweet girl who follows my blog told me she would like for me to read it,and for a while now, my friend Nereyda has been encouraging me to get into audio books, so I decided to get the whole series on audio, and slap me silly for waiting so long, but I totally loved it.  I knew I would after all the rave reviews and everything I've heard about this series and Kaidan Rowe.  The story itself was awesome.  Angel and Demon stories are hit and miss for me and this one was definitely a hit.  As for the characters.  Anna was great, and I just knew I was going to love Kaidan after all the hype, but the fact is, I did not like him very much at all for most of the novel.  He had his moments, but he really acted like a jerk - granted a hot jerk - but a jerk nonetheless.  Now before you stone me, I understand why he was the way he was and by the end of the book he had won me over and left me itching to get started on Sweet Peril.

My Opinion:  Great story, beautifully written, fantastic characters - definitely get this if you haven't read it yet, and to all you who have already read it - you were so right - I loved it!
Sweet Peril (The Sweet Trilogy #2)
by Wendy Higgins
Publisher:  Harper Teen

Anna Whitt, the daughter of a guardian angel and a demon, promised herself she’d never do the work of her father—polluting souls. She’d been naive to make such a vow. She’d been naive about a lot of things.

Haunted by demon whisperers, Anna does whatever she can to survive, even if it means embracing her dark side and earning an unwanted reputation as her school’s party girl. Her life has never looked more bleak. And all the while there’s Kaidan Rowe, son of the Duke of Lust, plaguing her heart and mind.

When an unexpected lost message from the angels surfaces, Anna finds herself traveling the globe with Kopano, son of Wrath, in an attempt to gain support of fellow Nephilim and give them hope for the first time. It soon becomes clear that whatever freedoms Anna and the rest of the Neph are hoping to win will not be gained without a fight. Until then, Anna and Kaidan must put aside the issues between them, overcome the steamiest of temptations yet, and face the ultimate question: is loving someone worth risking their life?

My Thoughts:  After reading Sweet Evil, I couldn't wait to get started on Sweet Peril.  I was itching for more of Anna and Kaidan, but alas, as fate and the sucky demons and whisperers would have it, they had a really hard time getting together.  While I didn't like Kaidan for most of Sweet Evil, I loved him in Sweet Peril for the most part, even though he still had his moments of jerkdom, because I knew he was doing it to protect Anna.  Kopano was great, but he just doesn't float my boat, and I was glad that what I thought was going to be a love triangle, which I do not like, wasn't what I thought it would be.  I was pleased with how that turned out.  The story itself is action-packed and full of suspense.  I love the secondary characters in this book - they are all so well written and personable, but my favorite of all is Blake - I just love Blake.  I wish he would get a spin-off book of his own.

Again, Sweet Peril was beautifully written and captured my attention from beginning to end.  Anna had to embrace her demonic side in this book and became a somewhat of a party girl, but she still managed to hold onto that innocence that makes her who she is.  I loved where the romance went with Kaidan and Anna and I loved where Wendy Higgins took the story.  Thankfully, I had Sweet Reckoning to start as soon as I was done.  I would have hated to have to wait on it.

My Opinon:  A definite hit - hotter with more romance, the suspense is taken up a notch, and Kaidan - oh yeah....totally loved him.  If you don't have it, I would definitely get it.

Sweet Reckoning (The Sweet Trilogy #3)

It’s time.

Evil is running rampant and sweet Anna Whitt is its target. Nobody knows when or how the Dukes will strike, but Anna and her Nephilim allies will do anything necessary to rid the earth of the demons and their oppressive ways.

The stakes are higher than ever, and Anna is determined that the love she feels will be her strength, not a liability. But trying to protect the ones she loves while running for her life and battling demonic forces proves to be perilous—especially as faces are changing and trust is fleeting. When the Duke of Lust sends Anna’s great love, Kaidan Rowe, to work against her, Anna must decide how much she’s prepared to risk.

In the most sensual and fast-paced installment yet, Sweet Reckoning brings all the beloved Neph together one last time to fight for their freedom.

My Thoughts:  Oh the bitter-sweetness of the last book in a series, and the things that happen in Sweet Reckoning make you smile, swoon, and have several "Oh my Gawd" moments.  Sweet Reckoning was definitely my favorite book out of the series.  I loved where Wendy Higgins took the romance and relationship between Kaidan and Anna - it was downright hot.  Didn't know my girl had it in her, but she does, and she ends up being a kick-butt heroine also.  Kaidan had me totally swooning over him in this novel.  I totally loved the person he became in this book.  He wound up being quite the hero.  All of the other secondary characters played big roles as well - Ginger and Marna - the twins,  and their bittersweet finale.  Then there is Jay, bless his heart, Patty, and of course my favorite of all, Blake.  I still so wish Blake had his own book - I just loved him.

That said, the ending is epic and I thought Wendy Higgins concluded the series very well.  She even provided an epilogue, which is something I love, and I totally loved this epilogue.

My Opinion:  Fantastic series that young adult and adult fans of paranormal romance will love.  Definitely buy it, you won't be disappointed.
