This week my book boyfriend is Wes Michals from Ruin by Rachel Van Dyken.  He's absolutely dreamy.

I'm not your typical girl. I've been running away from the memories that haunt me for so long that depression has become my only comfort. I was content in the darkness...until Wes Michals offered to be my light.

I didn't know that time wasn't my ally -- that every second that ticked past was one step closer to the end of something that was beginning to mean the end of myself. He tried to warn me. He promised me all he was able to offer--each moment as it came--but it would never be enough.

Sometimes when you think it's the end, it's only the beginning. Wes thought he could save me, but in giving me everything, he ruined me. Because after one kiss, one touch, I couldn't--I wouldn't ever be the same.

And from that moment on, his heartbeat became my own.

My Thoughts:  If I could say one thing about this book, one thing that would convince you to read it, that thing would be "Wes Michals."  The story is wonderful, so is Kiersten, and so are the secondary characters, Gabe and Lisa, but Wes Michals is a guy that stands out about other guys, a guy that stands out among book boyfriends everywhere, and he totally makes this books.

Kiersten is a freshman in her first year at college.  She is a beautiful girl, even if she doesn't realize it.  She has also had a very hard time as the result of a tragedy in her life, something that has left her scarred emotionally, something that has almost wrecked her, something that has sent her into the pits of depression so deep sometimes she didn't know if she could make it out......until she meets Wes Michals.  Wes is a senior, the all-star quarterback, oh so very hot, charming, and oh so swoon-worthy.  Wes Michals also ends up being the light that brings Kiersten out of her pit of darkness.  Wes normally doesn't date, especially freshman, but there is just something about this girl that captivated him from the moment he met her, something he just can't resist, despite the secret that he is living with and the future that secret holds for him.  Sometimes though, love and miracles go hand in hand........

I loved Ruin, absolutely loved it.  The story itself will make you smile, swoon, cry, laugh, and leave you completely sated by the end.  Wes and Kiersten's story is heartbreakingly beautiful and I just loved it.  The secondary characters, namely Gabe, were also fantastic and Gabe kind of stole my heart to.  His story is next in the series and I loved it as well.  I love Rachel Van Dyken's writing and she has done an outstanding job of creating a contemporary romance that will captivate you.  Ruin is one of those books you will remember for a long time and I am so glad I took the time to read/listen to it.
Audio Review:
I really enjoyed the audio of the books, but the narrator for Wes though he was a good narrator, sounded like an old man, way too old to be Wes.  That didn't deter my enjoyment of the book, but I would have definitely picked someone with a younger voice.  The narrator for Kiersten was great though.

The audible version of the first three books in this series,  Ruin, Toxic, and Fearless are currently on sale for $1.99 each at the time of this post.  Check them out here.

“…one, two, three, four, six, Good Lord, eight? Eight packs? Furthermore, had I actually been feeling said person’s eight pack? And, dear God, I was counting. I had touched each muscle. And great, my hand was still firmly placed against the guy’s stomach. I jerked my hand back and closed my eyes.
“Were you just counting my abs?” His voice sounded amused. It also sounded like a movie star voice, the type that makes you want to jump into the TV screen.”

“Maybe it's not in the perfection of life that things make sense, but in the chaos.”

“Life isn’t fair, but living? Living is heaven. Living is a gift. Every gift is different — every path is different — for some reason this is ours, and the sooner we accept it, the sooner we can stop crying and start living.”

“Wherever I am, whatever I'm doing, alive or dead, young or old, my heart will always be with yours. Every beat you feel against your fingertips..." His fingers tapped against my chest, once, twice. "... is me calling out to you. It's you returning the call. It's us talking, communicating, bonding, sharing, Living -- Kiersten, it's us living.”

“I can tell you have a good heart…” I sighed, opening the door to the outside. “…because the minute I met you, I wanted to fight for it.”

She was silent.

“That’s how you can tell when someone has a good heart.”

“When you want to start a war?” She laughed, clearly trying to lighten my mood.

“Nah.” I sighed.

“When you want to be the one to make it beat.”

“What you two have — it’s a once in a lifetime — you fight for him, sweetheart. Fight for him with every last breath. No regrets, okay?”

“You rescued me and I found my ruin." I bit down on my lip. "I'm ruined for you - and I won't ever be the same. It's the greatest gift anyone has ever given me.”
