From the USA Today bestselling author of True, Sweet, andBelieve comes a tantalizing New Adult novel about finding love in the most unexpected ways…
Kylie Warner prides herself on being optimistic, but after finding her best friend in bed with her boyfriend and flunking chemistry, her upbeat attitude has taken a dive. Even an impromptu hook-up with her sexy new chemistry tutor only brightens her mood slightly. After all, it’s not like she’ll ever see the tattooed scholar again…
While he’s a whiz at complex equations, Jonathon Kadisch has trouble when it comes to figuring out women. So when Kylie tells him that she’s pregnant after their night of passion, he’s at a complete loss. He’s prepared to be a good father—unlike his own deadbeat dad—but he’s less prepared to fall for the genuine and alluring blonde bearing his child.
With emotions running high, Kylie wonders if Jonathon’s devotion is out of growing love or looming obligation. And when heartbreak threatens to tear them apart, Jonathon will have to fight for the only girl who’s ever made him feel whole…

My Thoughts: I have thoroughly enjoyed the True Believers series by Erin McCarthy and the characters from the series are the type that just hold a special place in your memory and in your heart. Shatter is the fourth book in the series and is Kylie's story. We met Rory and Tyler in True (loved them both so much), then we have Jessica and Riley's story in Sweet (these two are my favorites from the series). In Believe, we read Robin and Phenoix's story, which also sets the stage for Kylie's story. Kylie is angry, hurt, and just brokenhearted after the events that occur in Believe. She feels betrayed by boyfriend, and by her best friend, someone she trusted. She doesn't want to be around her friends, and she especially doesn't want to be around her ex. On top of that she is having a hard time in Chemistry and needs to be tutored. What she didn't count on was her attraction to said tutor and his hotness factor. She thought she was fed up with men, but there is something about Jonathan Kadisch that just draws her in, and it is obvious that the tutor and the student have major chemistry going on that has nothing to do with Chemistry class. After a night of unbelievable passion, what they both assumed was just a one-time hook-up, Kylie finds herself pregnant. Jonathan knows all about dead-beat dads and he is determined to do the right thing by his child. Jonathan decides to help Kylie and support her and his child through the pregnancy, despite his kind of being a jerk when he first found out. Both of them decide to avoid any hint of a relationship between them, which is easier said that done. When things go from bad to worse.......some tough decisions are made, and there is a whole world of drama, love, passion, and pain that these two go through. The question is where will they both be when they finally come out on the other side?
While all of the characters in the books in the True Believers series undergo some very tough situations, I think Kylie's may have been the hardest, and my heart broke for her. She was put through the ringer more than once, and suffered so much pain in the midst of it. Jonathan was a really great guy. He had his moments of being kind of a jerk, but he more than made up for them. He was a hot, sexy, and kind of a nerd, and though it seems he and Kylie don't have much in common, other than chemistry and said pregnancy after chemistry, they find that there is so much to each of them, their relationship, and what the future holds. We also get to see the other characters from the series, which is something I just loved. The dynamic between them all adds so much to the story. There is also a wonderful epilogue that ties things together beautifully. I thoroughly enjoyed Shatter and would most definitely recommend it, and the entire True Believers series to anyone who loves contemporary romance. This series is New Adult at it's best, beautifully written, romantic, heartfelt, sexy, and fun. Check it out.
"But won't professors think you're cheating? If you have stuff on your arm? The smile he gave me was patronizing. I don't think he meant it to be, but his answer told me how clearly stupid my question was.
"When you're studying reactions kinetics and advanced nucleic biochemistry, you don't need to cheat on basic chem."
"Oh." I felt heat in my cheeks. Most of the time, I was perfectly happy with who I was. But then there were other times, like then, where I just didn't want to be the dumb blonde. Just once, I wanted to be taken seriously, instead of having everyone think I was cute, but ten IQ points off from needing the short bus.
Shit. I'd forgotten about the mystery woman. Whoever she was, I hated her. Why did she get his heart when all I got was his sperm? With Nathan, he'd given me his heart, but his penis to someone else. Was it so hard for one guy to give me both his heart and his hard-on?
......Jessica waved her arms in front of her face like she was overheated. "What the fuck?" she said in a stage whisper. ""Girl I think you hit the baby daddy lottery."
"It's a fact that a man's beard grows faster when he is anticipating sex."
She looked up at me suspiciously. "Are you making that up?"
"No. I'm totally serious. It's true."
"Did you come here anticipating sex?"
The saucy smile she gave me indicated she would not be at all offended by that. "Not specifically. I mean, I"m always hopeful though. Basically, I've been in a heightened state of sexual arousal since the very first minute I laid eyes on you.
She laughed. "Yay."
"No, Not yay. Bad. Very bad. I shouldn't want to strip you naked when you are fighting the urge to vomit."
